Dodge Dakota Computer (PCM) Install

Dodge Dakota Computer (PCM) Install

After the truck has not been running in two months i came to a conclusion that the PCM, or computer is fried. I bought a replacement from Ebay, and watch me install it. Enjoy!

Have a ninety four dakotA and started having problems with the fuel pump
then my transmission started having problems, at first it would only shift
at high rpms then it got to where it would drive in first then nothing, you
would be hitting the gas but the engine would Rev and not go anywhere. Turn
the truck of then back on and you could drive in first until it done the
same thing then you would have to turn it off then back on. Now my truck
just suddenly has no power at all to anything. Checked the battery and it
has twelve amps but nothing electric is working

this guy fumbled his way through a simple install. If ur skills are likel
his i suggest get a mechanic to do the work so u dont make more problems
than u started with. if i put on parts like this video i sure would be too
embarrassed to film it and put it online. lol

Andie Car says:

Hi, there this is andie, im a girl that doesnt know about Dakotas, but i
done my research, here is my issue with the Dodge Dakota 99 4wd 5.2L that i
have, after changing lots of things we got into conclusion that the problem
is the PCM, because im having alot of probem of the truck turning off and
stalling, now i took out the part and the number that i have is
56040111AD, i did some search and found out this is a Dodge Ram 1500 ecm, I
looked on a ALLDATA and the part number (Federal) that is giving me is
56046331AD, so makes me wonder why there was another ecm on, and still
worked, so are there any other complatible ecm that i can use on the truck
or do i need to used exactly the same part? Keep in mind it was running
fine, with the 111AD so, am not sure which part is the right one because am
having a difficult time looking for the original one that needs to go on
the truck. ANYONE that can HELP? Thanks in Advance!!

As I sit here watching u install new computer with that stupid shield. It
pissing me off just watching you try to install the plastic heat shield
that honestly should be metal

Carl Zorro says:

What was wrong in the first place did it turn off as you drove it? did this
stop the turning off?

Hello i have a 98 dodge dakota sport 4×4 and the problem i am having is
that the cluster dont work, their is no speedometer, rpm
gauge, gas, temp, charge,or odometer does not even light up, the 4×4 light
comes on when shifted in and the high beam light works also the low fuel
light is on as well as the washer fluid light and the back lights do work
when the headlights are on, is it possible that i need to replace the PCM
in the truck or is the cluster panel just bad

Karsten Jackson says:

Well heres an update to my previos post, i have replaced the computer by
myself and it was quite simple , i just had to take the air filter box out
and then unscrewed the screws for the computer and replaced it. And it
works. The battery is still dead though. But the computer works because
there is a light on the dash that dims when trying to be cranked.

Thanks so much for this video! I was able to surprise my husband by
ordering and changing the PCM for his 98 Dakota. You know this was very
useful if a “girl” could do a mans’ job and her hubby thinks she took it to
a mechanic!

craigpc1974real says:

@wilkes85 The modern cars can be either bad, or good. It depends what you
buy.

Karsten Jackson says:

@mariohdz2626 i beileve the cpu was ordered straight from the chrysler
company. But i had to get a mechanic to tell me what type of cpu i needed.

mgentolizo says:

Craig, you are a gentleman and a scholar. your vid was exactly what I need.
had to change the PCM. and the extra bit about needing to be the exact part
was very informative will use that tidbit when working on my Dakota from
now on. oh by the way the comment my Miguel was uncalled for….keep up the
great work!!

craigpc1974real says:

@VicGord Actually the air bag light never came on before until after i
ripped the dash apart lol. Im hoping it will just go out in the future
which it might. Sometimes the light will go out, and come back on.

craigpc1974real says:

@naterade21 the guage was fixed when i replaced the fuel pump

v7nf says:

another thing the day it died it did same thing yours did

kyle painter says:

i have 2001 dodge dakota with a 4.7L.v 8 it wouldnt event start

craigpc1974real says:

@727JeffN It all depends on the manufacturer’s doings i guess.

wheelman1985 says:

So I purchased mine from the same place, auto parts exchange, and let me
say its a bitch to get ahold of a person when you call, and when I did, the
guy in the core dept. acted like he’d never heard of a core sat in silence
for a bit and then said, “so, you want to return it?,” lol I had to hang
up. After replacing ecm, truck will crank and run on gas poured into
throttle body but once it burns that, nothing else. Would ya’ll say I
should let a mechanic have at it, or start replacing sensors?

Miguel Nieves says:

Dude your slow! Be ready to buy another PCM cause by looks of your dash
wires all out like that you will be having a short real soon, that truck
isn’t even worth $168 tht u spent on comp, I’d burn it and use the fire to
stay warm

craigpc1974real says:

@edzgarage Yes it was a relief. I hate electrical problems!

Troy Caldwell says:

umm hi my mom has the same exzact truck and that engine looks the same is
whats in hers but she has the 3.9 liter v6 with 2wd and a stick

throckparanormal says:

They shoulda put them in a better spot. They overheat n short out,or just
fry under the hood.

clubcar98 says:

I was thinking about getting a 1994-1996 Dodge Dakota extended cab somewhat
like yours but a V6…I need a truck. I was also considering a 2000-03 S10
extended cab…yours seems to have been a pretty reliable truck though. I
don’t think Ive ever heard of or known anyone who had an issue like this
happen when jump starting a vehicle. Interesting. Lucky it was not some
computer under the dash and you had to take that all out…that’s a pain in
the ass. Good to see it running again.

steve tart says:

craig…..did u ever get the airbag light off..an is ur truck still running

phxcards says:

My check engine light is on and changed my fuel pump because no pressure
but truck runs great for about two or three days then starts to back fire.
then check engine light turns off for a couple of days then back on.then
the whole thing goes through the same cycle.. help!!!

v7nf says:

my durango will start if foot to floor, sometimes it idles like shit runs
bad!wont throw any engine codes even when I put a bad part on to see if it
comes on,nothin,Ive checked everything I came to conclusion that it was
ecm,so I ordered from same people!Ive been told that sometimes they wont
start at all and other times they will but run bad and lose oil
pressuresometimes so I will see, caint beat that price!!!
