hi jake, i want to do this for my 2008 dodge 3500 .. can you supply the
part numbers do i can go buy the parts and kits i need? thank you and
great video., you gave me confidence to do this on my own.
pretty sure drilling where you did is the LOWEST point of the transmission
where the filter sits. I would recommend the opposite by the passenger’s
side. Solid video though, thanks.
Good job man I just did mine 96 ram 1500 she drives great now got a trans
kit from cascadeTransmissions
my bad its a 47re
could u maybe send me a message on ur thoughts with my 48re i had an issue
with the speedo just floating arounf if u will after awhile it just dropped
to 0 i kept goin down the highway after i came to a complete stop i couldnt
get any forward gears but 1st
make tranny jerks and the rmps racing to like 3, is it time to change
solenoid…
Thank you for the time spent! Did it like you added the drain plug replaced
solenoid, sensor and also made the band adjustments. Has120k and now works
perfectly.
‘ve always considered putting a valve that uses a screw driver on the
bottom or slightly close to the side of the pan, so all it took was a turn
of the valve to drain the tranny. My question is; I had a body shop work on
my vehicle. I had 4 different problems. Could this solenoid have gone bad
because of welding on the truck without it being properly grounded or
something being disconnected so the voltage couldn’t back feed and short
out something. I knew something was definitely wrong!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! Thanks to this one and another I was able to fix
my baby (07 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Diesel) I was having late shift problems
with no trouble codes.. I was able to drill a hole and put a drain plug in,
thanks to this video. My baby is no longer sick, but SUPER HAPPY..SO AM I.
So once again THANK YOU for taking the time to post this video. It didn’t
take long to change the governor solenoid & tranducer sensor.. I am one
happy woman 😉 Thank you!
@civicboy123 Well the torque converter shudder i thought was a problem that
happend all the time as you drive in OD.. mine only does it right when it
shifts to OD then its quiet and smooth.. and when it does it i can feal it
in the steering wheel and hear it throughout the vehicle.. it makes a
rumble for a second did a fluid and filter change 9 months ago, didnt see
anything in the pan. the normal gunk on the magnet and a few small metal
shards in the pan but thats to be expected
thanks for uploading this video, it helped me with my 04 dodge. the only
thing i would add to your videos is a band adjustment video. I did the
solenoid and trancducer it fixed the back and forth shifting but it would
not shift out of 2 properly, did the band adjustment and runs geat. if you
are thinking of doing this take the extra time to adjust the bands its an
important part of this fix. thank you all for your input.
Great great video….thank you sir 🙂
@thefelts2 This video will fix your problem. You have a bad transducer on
the tranny. Replace both of these parts as mentioned in this video. You can
either buy these parts from your local tranny shop, ebay, or a local tranny
supplier like transtar.
hey civicboy thanks for the vid. My tranny has shifting problems but only
after a while of driving time. Im going to do it myself. After you drill
the hole do you tap it to make the threads for the plug?
@1ownjoo2 This problem you see more on Ford’s than you do on Dodges from
what your describing. What your describing is Torque Converter Shutter.
This usually happens when the fluid is old and dirty and when the fluid
looses it lubricating properties. I would suggest that you drop the pan and
do a fluid and filter change, and see if this doesn’t help with your Torque
Conver Shutter.
@Danscraigslist65 It’s not “normal”. A new governor pressure solenoid and
transducer will fix your shuttle shifting issues … that’s what they are
mainly replaced for. I’d do a little research on cumminsforum(dot)com as
there are better alternatives (solenoids) if the work is not done under
warranty.
Nice video untill you got trans fluid on the camera lens lol.I don’t think
anyone is going to think you are a redneck for putting a drain plug in the
pan.I just would have put the hole in it after the pan was off is all. Over
all great job.
I have a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. Did you have the same problem
before you replaced the solenoids? 2003 5.9l cummins
Actually if you pause at 41sec, you want to drill into the area just above
and to the right of where he is pointing. It’s the corner “square”
@brandonou812 I glad it worked out for you. I just sold this POS Dodge 2
weeks ago. Dash started to crack, and I said time to go. The Cummins engine
was great, but the rest of the truck was a POS.
So do you happen to know anything about the new Orion 68RE auto? Compared
to this how would you rate it? I happen to like the the newer 6.7L but I
herd the DPF can be a real pain in wasting fuel for regeneration mode.
@mrUSARMY96 This sounds more of an internal issue with the tranny. When
tow/haul light starts to flash this means there is something internally
wrong with the tranny. Maybe, you have a bad lockup solenoid for the
overdrive. I would have someone scan the tranny for codes. Best thing is to
take the truck to a tranny shop and have they look at it, and scan the
truck for fault codes.
thanks i watched your video and fixed my 03 dodge 3500 worked great you
saved me alot
I was wondering about the transmission temperature sensor and if this needs
to be changed at the same time? Is it up there in the same area ?? My tran
templight is flashing and its kicking out of OD. I heard it could be
related to the gov press solenoid also. Thanks for any info.
Yes it turned out it was the temperature sensor was bad. I took it to a
transmission guy and he replaced it or $180.00. He said it was a fairly
common problem and that I could have just disconnected the sensor if I
wanted to but I decided to have it replaced.
mine works fine all summer long but when the cold weather come around it
wont drop down into first. When i come to a stop it stays in 2nd gear once
i get going it shifts the rest normally. come to a stop and it starts off
in 2nd again. It wont even go into 1st manually. Can you help.
Thanks for posting this video. I just completed the repairs myself and
would not have otherwise. Messy but got it done, and the repair was
successful, my trans now downshifts into first gear when I slow down!
Thanks!!
Thanks alot for this video. Do you know if there’s a big difference in my
2001 Durango r/t 4wd?
@gwot09 Sounds like you got some internal issues with the transmission. My
temp light never came on. Sounds like something overheated in the tranny. I
would recommend taking it to a trans shop and having it looked at.
Nice Job. Can you hel answer this: I have a 96 Dodge 2500 works fine the
later does not like to downshift to 1st and will take off in second at a
stop unless it is turn off the re started. I think it is the same problem
where do I get the parts at and what are the parts numbers? Thanks
@civicboy123 I’m a Ford guy, but I wouldn’t take a 6.0 anyday, unless its
tuned and has everything done to it, as for Dodge, I wouldn’t touch a gas
or diesel Dodge with the garbage auto transmission, too much failure behind
that thing for my liking
hey mine is doing the same damn thing as yours what did you do to fix it
Where can u buy these parts from?
the tranny guy at roberts transmission in eureka while smoking a cigarette
and giving me about 30% of his attention diagnosed it as dead! dead tranny,
3000.00 for basic and 6500.00 for heavy duty tranny. i smelled shady and
went to another guy and he was honest said he didnt know but check dealer,
dealer was busy and guy told me check you tube…. lol here i am. i think
this is my fix to get home.
lot of people don’t know that
was your check engine light on before solenoid replcement?
I have a 2-3 weird shuttle shift I wonder if thus would fix it? 03 dodge
diesel 150k miles? Any ideas?
was yours like jumping back and worth shifting from first to second??
@Danscraigslist65 thanks again my 03 3500 still working glad you posted
this video
is this similar to the 45re? i only have 3rd unless i drop it to D1 or D2
but even then i still only have 2nd, no 1st or 4th gear. tranny shop told
me 1200 for them to replace the solenoid
Hello i have a Jeep grand cherokee 5.9 with the 46re, i think its pretty
much the same tranny as the 47 and 48 re, do you have any idea what could
cause the transmission to shudder meaning like rumble when it shifts from
3rd to OD ? It only does it during the shift and not when im in 3rd or od
itself.. It also get worse the harder the throttle that is applied, and its
not even noticable when you let off the throttle right as it shifts, or
with very little throttle.
i had a weird surge issue happening on mine (47re) when it was shifting
into 2nd gear…..i did a band adjustment on it & i couldn’t believe how
quickly & smoothly it shifts now……
civicboy I need to know is this going to work on my ram 3500 2006. are
these the part numbers.
@Danscraigslist65 All 48re tranny’s shift like this. I would consider this
normal. I would try adjusting your bands.
AWESOME, Im almost about to cry stuck in eureka cali on road trip from port
angeles washington… My truck does this not wanna shift 4 shit and
redlining on hills when i need it most [im towing/hauling a 4runner] ive
been to mexico and back and its run fine just past couple days driving the
1 north along the coast it started this shit.
@jcopelin09 Sould be the same solenoids from 96-99 on the 46re, 47re, 48re.
00+ are the same.
So how long did the oil stay on the lens?
Where did you buy your parts? My 04 Dodge 2500 Cummins is doing the same
thing in 1st and 2nd.
Nice work, but with 114k you should have adjusted both bands while the pan
was down, the front band is a pretty high wear item on the 48re..
