put the key in the ignition and turn to “RUN” position. then using the original remote press and hold “UNLOCK” for 4 to 10 seconds. while holding “UNLOCK” after 4 seconds press and hold “PANIC” for 1 second and listen for the chime sound. your now in program mode, take the new remote press “LOCK” and “UNLOCK” simultaneously for 1 second and release. then press and release any botton on either remote to finish (note: a chime will sound to let you know its programmed right” if not repeat again

Try disconnecting the battery for 15min and letting all the power drain out of the computers which should reset the system.

Do u know how to program a new remote?

afromagnumXXL says:

Thanks a lot, that is probably the case. I usually open it right away scared it might go off. Its in the shop once I get it home i’ll check. Thanks again for the response.

Continued: Soon as you unlock the vehicle, do you open the door almost right away without giving it a few seconds? From a previous vehicle I owned (VW) my door sensor would act up which would cause the alarm to go off at random times. Possible you could have a faulty sensor which is why the alarm is going off. Depending on how the sensors are connected (open/closed loop), you might be able to just unplug each sensor or jumper the wire and leave it for a short time to see if it solves the issue.

4Diyers says:

This seems to be a fairly common problem with most Dodge vehicles just in general. Even from my search, vehicles a couple years old have the same issue. If your remote is still working from a further distance then the battery should be fine. That is usually the first sign when the battery isn’t up to par. I’m not sure what exactly is included in a Dodge factory alarm system for sensors, but there could be a tilt sensor, shock sensor, hood/door sensors, and maybe a motion sensor inside the cabin.

Hey, I have a 2001 dodge ram. The alarm goes off sometimes when i press the unlock button. Could that be a battery problem or maybe the remote is broken. If you have any idea or knowledge on this I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Debby GMitchel says:

Hey THANKS for the feedback .. Is exactly what I was thinking after having a close look at the remote after making contact with you this morning. As soon as I can find another remote am going to swap out the buttons, and think this will solve the problem without the expense of buying a new one and having a new one programmed (expensive) to my Cherokee. Seriously Thanks You so Much Again!!!

4Diyers says:

It’s a full rubber case which holds all the buttons together. Possibly what has happened is the button cracked around that rubber case from usage over time and just fell out then. You probably wouldn’t have been able to fix it even if you caught it in time before the button was lost because you would need a very flexible adhesive. You might be able to pick up a used remote and just pull the both apart and swap the parts over or you can usually buy new button cases on Ebay or someone else online.

Debby GMitchel says:

wow you seem to know what is what. Perhaps you could tell me? the button cover came off of my 99 Grand Cherokee Limited remote. The circut board is all I see. Covered it up and can press to make work with my finger. What in the world was there? It fell without my knowing it was gone. Thought maybe I could us the old tracker ball to am old BlackBerry to make work again without buying a new one and having it programed to my truck. So expensive. Thanks if you can Debby

4Diyers says:

It could be possible. Here’s a link how to reprogram the remote to your vehicle dodgeforum.c o m/forum/2nd-gen-ram-faqs-diys-and-how-tos/254281-how-do-i-program-a-keyless-entry-remote.h t m l (remove spaces)

Noe Gomez says:

Is it possible that I need to reprogram fob after replacing batteries? Have replace the battery on keyless remote and nothing responds. thanks

4Diyers says:

I would think it should come with the new contacts. But if it doesn’t, they should unclip from the case and in some other situations they’ll have a little piece of plastic melted over a hole, works almost like a rivet. So that little piece of plastic could be scratched off with a knife and you could use a little dab of crazy glue to hold it into the new case.

Nicole Cullen says:

I just bought a new shell same remote u have. I’m not sure if the new shell comes with contacts but how would I take the old one out and put it in the new one

autistic1artist says:
