Video tutorial on how to repair two common fault codes found on a Dodge Dakota equipped with a 4.7L V8. These two fault codes are P0440 and P0456. P0440 is a fault found in the EVAP or also known as the Evaporative Emission Control System. Next P0456 is also an EVAP issue, but directed towards having a system leak. Both of these faults effects the emissions of your vehicle. This repair may also apply to other engines and models as well. This particular truck I am working with here today is a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 2wd.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-hose cutters or a cutter capable of cutting rubber hose
-new generic fuel vapour compatible rubber line
-dealer purchase carbon canister rubber line kit
-hose clamps
-socket
-screwdriver
-pliers

Procedure:
-looking under the hood and inspecting the vacuum lines
-the common break point is at this T fitting
-instead of replacing the whole line and can cut it back to a none damaged area and replace the short piece, but this may vary between vehicles
-when replacing this line, be sure it’s compatible with fuel, otherwise it will deteriorate
-the lines that can cause the error codes travel anywhere from the throttle body, all the way behind the battery to the EVAP solenoid
-next common fault area is now underneath the truck at the carbon canister area
-on this truck it’s located on the driver’s side, about under the driver’s seat area
-looked for cracked or lines that have completely fallen off due to deterioration
-for an added security, you can install small gear clamps on the connections for these lines as well
-once done, you will need to reset the codes
-this can be done by simply driving your vehicle and after multiple start ups, the code will cancel out or disconnecting the battery which clears the computer logs or using an OBD2 code reader and erasing the codes
