DIY: Dodge 4.7L V8 Spark Plug Replacement

Video tutorial on how to how to replace the spark plugs on a Dodge 4.7L V8. This engine was found on various Mopar models such as Jeep, Ram, Durango, and Aspen, but some minor designs may vary. Torque specs are posted down below in the procedure section. This particular tutorial was done on a 2003 Dodge Dakota.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-3/8″ drive ratchet
-3/8″ 3″ extension
-3/8″ 6″ extension
-3/8″ 10mm socket
-3/8″ 8mm socket or standard/flat screwdriver
-3/8″ 5/8″ deep socket with spark plug grommet
-feeler gauges or spark plug gapping tool

Procedure:
-using an 8mm socket or standard screwdriver, loosen the intake tube gear clamps
-remove the rubber intake tube which is just a sliding fit
-using an 8mm socket or standard screwdriver, loosen the gear clamp on the intake duct before the throttle body
-remove the two 10mm bolts on each side of the intake duct, then pull the intake duct straight off
-disconnect the sensor by the throttle body by depressing the tab and pulling straight off
-remove the two snap clips holding in the coolant pipes by using a standard/flat screwdriver
-starting with the first spark plug, remove the 10mm nut holding in the coil pack
-to remove the coil pack connector, depress the tab and pull the connector straight off
-give the coil pack a little jiggle when removing as this will reduce the risk of damaging the sealing o-ring
-using a 3” and 6” extension together which is used for almost all the spark plugs along with a 5/8” spark plug socket with a rubber grommet insert
-depending on which spark plugs you have purchased, the gaps may need to be adjusted or at least checked
-the gap specification is located under the hood on a white tag and it 0.040″
-feeler gauges or a spark plug gapping tool will work for this
-install the new spark plug and torque to 20ft. lbs.
-reinstall the coil pack and torque the nut to 5ft. lbs.
-for the next spark plug, the plastic bracket will need to be removed by removing the 10mm bolt and carefully pulling out the plastic bracket
-the remaining two spark plugs on the driver’s side, it’s a similar removal process compared to the first spark plug
-the passenger side rear spark plug can only be accessed with a 6″ extension and 5/8” spark plug socket
-next two plugs moving closer to the front of the vehicle, they can be removed in the standard procedure using a deep socket with a 6” and 3” extension
-the last front passenger side spark plug has a plastic bracket which needs to be removed by removing the 10mm bolt and then carefully pulling the bracket out from it’s location
-reinstall all other components in reverse of removal

Hey…this 4.7 i am changing plugs is the first engine i have not had to burn my fingers/hands on hot manifolds..i was a Chevy guy but bought an 07 Dakota extended cab..thank you for the great tutorial…i had all 8 plugs changed in about a half hour…and thank you for showing me where the damn things were…haha, great video
