Your welcome! Thanks for watching
I know this is an old post but it saved me $80 on my 2000 Dodge Neon .. i found your video last night and changed my injector this morning .. took about 15mins … thanks for sharing
same problem with my 99 caravan sport. Except it was an intermittent connection at one of the connectors. Fixed it with some dielectric grease. That was 30k miles ago. All is still working fine.
Nice video thanks
Nice!! This is my 3rd caravan (2nd was actually a grand…..) and I swear by them….. the crap I can haul with my van….. a lot more convenient than a truck mind you having stow and go seats are the for last minute pick ups 🙂
Ouch….. if the insulation is brittle on the wiring harness, it could be causing a short but the temp shouldnt have anything to do with it….. it might be something different altogether giving you false codes. I’d check the dodge forum DOT com and see what the master techs think. You certainly dont want to spend any additional money than you have to after changing the PCM…..
I have a 98 grand caravan awd with 418k on it…. still runs like a champ…. it has a 3.8 liter in it….:)
256000 KM or almost 160000 miles
How many miles do u have on it?
Number five just went out and the wiring harness wire insulation is not good at all. Runs great as if there is no problem but as soon as it gets hot it goes out. Heat expansion causing a short? Hmmmm? New harness not too cheap. Wouldn’t mind if that was the problem. Shop misdiagnosed and said it was computer. $550 later to the shop and no further ahead.
there could be a break in the wire somewhere in the wiring harness. That was my problem, or it could be the PCM. I spliced in a new wire at the PCM (leaving enough if i had to splice the old wire back on….) to the connector at the wiring harness for the fuel injectors.
Good video it helped me out! In my case I changed fuel injector 1 and checked the wire harness and the connection to the powertrain control module, and i’st still missing. I checked the code again and still indicating a fault on number 1!
What else can be wrong?
Thanks, although it was quite affordable ($125.00)… Samsung SMX20. The picture quality in good lighting conditions is pretty good for a standard definition camera. The videos I’m posting now are shot with a JVC Everio HD. Cheers
Off the subject question; What brand camera did you use for this video? it looks pretty HQ video! Thanks for sharing the repair!
Good video. Just pull the negative battery terminal next time. Power cant go anywhere without ground
I bought onejust to see if that was the problem i was having. I can’t remember the exact price I paid now for the injector but it would have been a waste of money to replace all of them since they all work and the injector wasn’t part of my problem. Thats the downfall to backyard mechanics, sometimes trial and error can be expensive
Good work but dont u think would ov been beeter if u changed all ov the injectors
U just saved me 400 $
nice!
I have a ’98 Chry. T&C AWD with 253,000 miles on it. Bought for $500, from salvage yard before it would have been titled as salvage, needed some repairs. Water pump, ignition module, tranny shift module, O2 sensor. I performed all the work, saved quite a alot of money. Had shop do wheel alignment. Latest MPG check old school method, not by the on board trip computer, divide miles traveled by fuel used resulting in 23.779 mpg. I am a happy driver! 😉
very fine you video im jeffri father thanks.
if you’re in the midwest, yeah you guys have had it rough this winter. I’ve never haad to get 3/8 clamps so I’m not sure what the price, but looking at online sites both in canada and the US and the prices are about the same.
hey steve, thanks for the vid. that must have been quite a stretch to get those back bolts on the plenium. I also have a ’02 with the #6 injector leaking and it is about to give me gas poison I have to ride about a 1/2 hour in the morning to work and 1/2 back a day to get to work and the darn weather here has been such as to make it near imposible to get this fixed I bought all my needed parts just incase I need them.
what does the stealrship chg for 3/8 clamps there in canada? 4/$20 here
$35 dollars a day! boy oh boy you have a really huge vacum/fuel leak or you are running a taxi cab.
do you have a check engine light showing? if so get to the zone and have it read.
I didn’t have a fuel injection problem with my van at all, but thank you for the video, I watched for the sole reason that like you said, lack of video’s on Dodge Caravan’s, very informative, you pinpointed too many helpfull areas to list, bolt, computer, injector, hose, reservoir locations, harness connections… and camera operator was on top of it.. Thanks.
whats the problem? your fuel economy?
You shouldnt need to reprogram the computer when you replace the transmission control module. If i have time someday I’ll make a video on how to do it. Its pretty straight forward. jack up & remove the front drivers tire, remove the plastic wheel well skirt, and its just a couple of bolts holding it on the frame and 1 bolt holding the wiring harness on the TCM
hey could make a video about a dodge caravan replacement
of the transmission computer (module) please and let me if we need to reprogram that computer and if just any computer for the transmission (not the engine) will fit for that a the year 2003
i have 2001 dodgcarvan with 3.3 L I am use 35.00dollars gas a day i don;t know what 2 do i need help with this my e mail is tleroy8354@gmail.com thank you.if anyone can help me
Hey Steve that video was off the hook, I have a 2001 caravan and I’m about to change my plugs, wires, ignitors, air cleaner, PS reservior and by removing the wipers and assemby below the winshield, I’ll have complete access to everything just a thought the next time you change your plugs.
Thanks man you saved me $ 50
I didn’t Know the grand caravans were fuel injected
Thanks for the time you took to explain! 🙂
Got an 06 Grand Caravan 3.8. Keep up the good instructional videos! Thanks.
Just get down to it.boring! ,no offence.
Thanks Steve and Girlfriend.
Really helpful and good instructive video.
You sould really disconnect the Neg. cable first even says it in the manual along with the haynes repair manual.
I am, I live on the east coast in a small province called Nova Scotia. My last van was a 2007 grand caravan…. loved it but I sure dont miss the van payment. thanks for watching
Are you Canadian? BTW I have a 2003 Grand Caravan Sport 3.8 V6
Houston,Tx
Ouch!! thanks for the tip!
Just in case someone with a 3.0L Voyager/Caravan comes across this video, it is v.v.v.v.v.v. important that you replace all the fuel injector-to-fuel rail retainers whenever you service the injection system! Moreover, if you choose to install the yellow Ford Explorer injectors that are available for the Chrysler 3.0L motor, be sure to also install pintles on them because they dont come with them! I accidentally totaled my Plymouth Voyager last month due to fuel related fire, so I know better :[
Great video, I got a 300M with the 3.5L Completely different motor but i couldnt find a video explaining it and then i found yours… THANKS!!! i didnt need the change the injectors but the wiring was the same kinda route… Either way it helped me rewire my injectors.
hey Steve great video I know a lot about cars and I do a lot of work on my van but your video was still helpful keep them coming thanks
Thank you for showing how to disconnect that electrical clip! I’m just starting to work on my “new” van (1996 GC) and those electrical clips have been driving me crazy trying to figure out how to get them apart. The trick for disconnecting the throttle cables was GOLD! Also how to “relieve pressure in fuel line” but hey, don’t get that on your skin, might as well drink it. no bueno… anyways, really appreciate the DETAILED descriptions. If I knew how to do this I would n’t be watching u-tube.
AWESOME video. Good God man! Great detail. You walk us through everything.
Come on guy..Change them all..lol
A few complaints here: As long as we’re going through all of this work to actually get to the fuel injectors, why not take the time to clean them out as well? Obviously, due to the costs of new fuel injectors, most poeple won’t be replacing all of them at once. Usually, when one has failed, the others aren’t far behind the failed injector.
Thanks for the video. Great Help!
