Adam Alexander says:

Thank you so much for taking the time to record this….made the job so
easy. Keep the neon videos coming.

maria walker says:

Having trouble getting the three bolts off the bracket?

ihartpills says:

Will this work for the 2000-2003 PT Cruisers? I have a limited non-turbo
01 and my battery light keeps coming on even with a new battery. I tried
jump starting the car before the new battery and once the cables where
removed it would die; i just thought its cause the old battery was frozen
up.

Robert cc says:

Thank you so much for this video. It would have taken me 5 times longer
without the know how. Thank you!

masterjbrown says:

Does anyone know if this is the same procedure on an 03 Neon?

richpin06a says:

@bwebber89 I do not have one handy but if one shows up i will certainly do
it.

BillMcGirr says:

AWESOME VIDEO….could’nt have done it without this. Took me about 3 hours
including back and forth to computer AND going to auto zone. Did it with
only the stock neon jack and some concrete blocks for added safety. Very
tight underneath but…I’m skinny……..A bit claustrophobic. Got friend
to hold alternator instead of using dowel….easier. Hardest part is
tension bolt…I had to take it out to remove….hard to get back together.
Video pop up says you dont have to remove.

DerpLion says:

awesome tutorial, Thanks a million!

XeebleCast says:

Yup apparently so 🙂 I did release a bit and its been fine the last few
runs. Thanks again.

richpin06a says:

I am with you 100%

XeebleCast says:

Thank you so much. Went exactly as you depicted it. One question however is
on the tension for the belt. I think I had overtighted it a touch and was
getting a ticking sound (I witnessed new alternator being tested so I can
rule out bad alternator) Ticking went away when I released a bit of
tension. Just double checking that it would be a cause of the noise and not
something else. Thank you again!

Jose Lopez says:

i think hes talking about the ground black wire, its right next to the
electrical plug, its held in by that 10 mm bolt.

richpin06a says:

I used a wobble extension to get at that bolt.

KenFaustmann says:

Great video! I have an 01 PT Cruiser and this Neon shares the same parts
and engine layout. I’m hoping if and when i need to change my alt I can
remove the bracket like you did, and not remove the driveaxle like the
Haynes manual states.

richpin06a says:

Depends if it is a DOHC or SOHC engine.

hp11208 says:

rich i like that air tool u have it looks handy where can i get one like
that

richpin06a says:

Your my friend for life now….lol

chris3987 says:

i apperciate your videos ive learned alot.. are you a mechanic?

wildwind03 says:

my son has to have the rf lower pump remove on his dodge neon any videos on
that and just hand tool can it be done thnaks

Jacob Fowler says:

This video saved my LIFE! Thanks so much!

richpin06a says:

No doubt that is one of the tightest spots for a alternator i have found.

noxvet says:

Don’t see many compact cars with OHV engines, eh? In the 87 honda civic,
they had the nerve to put the alternator right under the master brake
cylinder. Very tight squeeze to loosen and almost impossible to pivot for
belt tension.

Low Freekenseez says:

How much would your average shop charge to remove and reinstall an
alternator? I’m looking into getting one, andthe amplifier will be 1200 rms
so it would be a good idea to replace the alt with a high output alternater
and I’m curious as to how much it may be?( apart from buying the highoutput
alt)

julio flores says:

Nice thanks brother …..

Crazcompart says:

The one drawback with every Neon owner I know…Chrysler/Dodge made
absolutely no provisions for repair clearence on these damn
cars…Everything in that engine compartment is cramped in there, thus
making replacement of components such as the alternator or water pump a
major chore…

Filmaker25 says:

OOOh boy. How tight should the belt be? and you removed the tire assembly
to get the lower Through-bolt , right? Do you know , too if thier is a
Tranny drain plug on the 2000?

richpin06a says:

It is a tight fit for sure.

SPCLPONY says:

Do you know why my daughters 2000 Neon with a 2.0 engine would have a
single groove V-belt pulley? The belt goes around the large crank pulley as
far as I can tell. The replacement alternator has a serpentine type pulley.
Nobody at the parts store can find any info on the V- pulley. I hope I can
swap the pulleys when I install the new alternator! Thanks for any light
you may have on this question!

bobisme2005 says:

Amazingly helpful!

richpin06a says:

That happens to me sometimes.

Mario Gutierrez says:

Could you please tell me if you know an easier way to remove and replace an
alternator in a 98 dodge avenger 2.0. As far add i can troll its at the
bottom.thanks in advance for taking the time. I’m only going you cab shed
some light on my situation

richpin06a says:

Manual adjustment can be a little tricky.

Andrew Tornadoboy says:

I think mine is going so this video may have saved my bacon

Jose Lopez says:

ya, its right next to the main alternator connector, its just a ground
wire, its not that complicated….

Filmaker25 says:

it’s in your video , Rich. lol You don’t see it. It’s behind the alternator
after you losened the 10mm. Unless because it’s dark up near the exhaust
heat shield it just looks black.

richpin06a says:

Thank you for letting everyone know.

HU3CAP says:

@HU3CAP I almost forgot. Awesome tutorial! Gonna save me some money for sure
