Just installed the ignition switch on my 2004 Ram 2500. Only took about 15
minutes, but I already had the kick panel removed as I had not reinstalled
it after diagnosing the problem.
My 2004 Dodge Ram has been having this problem off & on for a year or so.
Got so the fan didn’t want to run at all, no matter what angle I have the
steering column tilted at. I have the part on it’s way via Amazon and will
be changing out the ignition…

This video has saved me time and alot of cash. This fault in design with
with the ignition switch appears to be quite common after reading all the
posts. Without this video I would have had no clue as to finding the cause
of this problem or how to fix it. The ignition switch cost me $23.00 at
CARQUEST auto parts. I’m sure this fix would have cost hundreds of dollars
at the dealership. I would have had to have left my truck and missed
work. This was a 20 min. fix, thanks for you video.
Very helpful video.
Great video. I replaced two blower motors before coming across this fix.
The video made it very easy, and I replaced it in about 15 minutes. The
blower now works fine and my after market radio isn’t acting up like it was
before either. Thanks!
Check to see if it blows only on high it may be the blower resister. Check
out “2002 Dodge Ram blower motor resistor swap” on YouTube.
Thanks much! A “friend” of mine in the business quoted me $217.00 to do
this. Thanks to your video it cost me $30 and about 20 minutes…..
Thank you for well thought out video, you made my repair much easier and
less costly!
Thank you for this video. This was very easy and it cost me $28.88 to fix.
Much obliged…
yes it should have the same issues.
THANKS!!! I almost spent $90.00 on an ignition cylinder thinking that was
the problem, due to my wife’s 20# keyring. Great job on the video, you are
awesome!
very easy fix, thanks
I FIX MY RAM WHIT YOUR VIDEO, THE BLOWER MOTOR WORKS GOOD,BUT, THE AC
CLUTCH DOESN’T WORK & BEFORE THIS FAILURE HAVE AN EXCELENT AC… DO YOU
HAVE AN IDEA OF THIS? … AL FUSES, RELAYS & VOLTAGES ARE FINE….
Where do you get the special T-20 and T-25 drivers to remove the screws?
Great hep by the way.
I am experiencing the same behavior, thanks for posting a solution!
I just replaced my ignition switch a couple months ago and resolved this
problem. Now, I’m having the same issue. Could this be a sign of a bad
blower motor? If so, I would have to replace the blower motor AND the
ignition switch again.
The short answer is yes. A bad wire harness and or ignition switch could
cause the vehicle to fail to start. All contacts to the switch and the
switch reeds themselves must be in working order for the various components
to function. That includes the starter and the ECM power.
Torx drivers or star drivers are available at any hardware store or auto
parts store Harbor freight tools as a budget option.
Thank you so much for doing this video. My 2003 was doing the same thing.
Watched the video, got the part $28.00 bucks, installed it just like you
said and works perfect. Great job and cudo’s……. GT
piece of cake! it was like i was doing it for the second time! thanks
Javier I’m sorry your having this difficulty. There are several components
that get the power through the switch you changed. When you removed the
switch you probably noticed the burnt wire connector. This could be the
problem. That 2 foot section of wire harness is replaceable. It has most
likely gone too far (burnt terminals) and the connectors are no longer
clean at the ac link. I hope that helps. Good Luck
I have 400k on my ram 2500 and have had to do this twice the components and
wiring seems to be garbage on these trucks
Could this switch eventually stop the truck from starting?
will this work the same on 2004
Hey Glen, I would agree the fan could be dragging and causing a higher than
normal current draw. However the connector to the ignition switch must be
in good shape to rule out that as a possibility. If you look into the
terminals and they are charred than they should be replaced. If the wires
have burned to a hard crisp just past the connector than its possible it is
too crusty to make a clean contact and the entire section should be
replaced. OEM cord has plug at each end. Replace bad switch.
Great Video! Helped me out alot, I appreciate it. You were right saved alot
of money doing myself. I look forward to more help videos.
Thanks…fixed my fan (it was staying on) did you worry about the spades
getting that hot and damaging the plug (female spades) ?
Best instructional video i have seen .. NO BS .. thanks brotha .. I was on
the right track and I got a mirrored light. I saw the top wire blackened
and thought it might be a good idea to see what “the collective” have
experienced. Awesome man … Will be fixed tomorrow…. Jason
Great Video I just fixed the switch on my 2003.
Thanks for the positive feedback. That makes it well worth the effort.
I was able to remove the blue plastic face from the female plug it has 4
catches on the sides and I got a good look at mine. It looked perfect
inside. not chard or blackened at all. only the blue plastic was burnt. If
the terminal is burnt or the wire than you might want to replace that
section of wire harness. I believe its about 20 inches long and plugs into
another similar plug down by the pedals.
