2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7 L v8 spark plug change.

Thank you so much for the video… Went to two local Auto Parts stores
(Orileys and Autozone and nobody had a damn clue.

Tim Gormley says:

Thanks for the video. Not looking forward to this, but going to try and
save a buck.

Mishirumm says:

Looks like I’m in for one hell of a job…

Kira Elton says:

I have a dodge ram 1500 and its all the same issue. Not even kidding I also
dropped the the 5/8th. So frustrating!

killerprduction says:

I have a 02 Dakota 4.7 and isn’t the thing on top of the spark plug called
a coil pack?

Carl King says:

Thanks for the video. Changed my plugs today in about 2 hours start to
finish. This video saved me lots of time, and I knew what I need to do.
Cost me less than $30…. dealer wanted $240.

Tracy Friel says:

Thank you, like you I was a Ford person but now i have the same Dodge and
was just trying to find out how to change plugs. Thanks again

bushbumming29 says:

Thanks, Ive been thinking of getting a Go pro, I need to change the fuel
filter for my truck so maybe I can get a go pro for that video.

70TheProfessor says:

Wow, I had no idea that changing spark plugs was such an ordeal on the
newer vehicles. Thanks for showing how it’s done!

BoneS Zimmerman says:

holly shit bat man … i was thinking of changing my spark plugs.. but fuk
that im to lazy to do all that work

classic287 says:

Very descent of you to make and upload this video. I had that exact truck a
few years ago. Wish I had it now. That thing could fly. You really went
into good detail and talked out everything. Excellant informative video…..

Mchurchwell says:

Great because that is next on my list too!

NoritaPuertorra says:

I appreciate your video very much. I learned a lot from it. I’ll start very
early in the day. 🙂

MCC ELECTRONICS says:

Are called Ignition Coils

Ragenule says:

Well, looks like a pain, but at least it’s not even NEARLY as much of a
pain as swapping out the plugs on an 05 Jeep TJ.

k fairshon says:

I have an `03 Durango SXT 4.7. The manufacturer recommends standard OE
plugs [Champion]. However, any quality plug with the same specs is fine as
long as it’s a standard copper core plug. Using platinum or iridium plugs
can cause drivability issues with these motors. The difference in
resistance creates issues with the coil packs. Hope this helps.

Leonard Galan says:

want to thank you for the video. Pretty good for the first time changing
them. I am going to try this and it is nice knowing what to expect. Nice
job. Now it is my turn. I am going in!!!!

bushbumming29 says:

There was plenty of cursing off camera lol. It really wasnt bad just a big
PIA compared to the old V8’s

Ben Molina says:

I recently changed mine also and let me tell ya its really not that bad at
all compared to changing the plugs on my wifes expedition GEEZ ASS. Lol!
Took me a total of 10hrs over a 2 day period to change those. But yeah I
got the ram 4.7 so its pretty much the same setup. I went with the champion
coppers after a cylinder 8 misfife and now she runs like a champ. Something
I noticed while changing mine there was a Bosch platinum 4 with the 4
prongs in cylinder 5 kinda weird! Any way good video!

littletoy01 says:

do you have a video on replacing injrctors. great video I did mine last
year

MrDom2323 says:

you have been working on cars your whole life and you dont know what a
C.O.P. is your dangerous. leave it to the pros very easy job.

MyHollowpoint says:

Good grief! Now I know why I no longer try any work myself, scary 🙂

pitbull974 says:

Those things you took off of your spark-plugs are called ignition coils.
you have 8 separate ignition coils to each plug. I understand it’s a pain
in the ass, but its a good thing. Your mustangs and Crown victoria’s both
have a 4.6ltr v8 and have the same exact setup. The coils being directly on
the plug itself allows for imporoved response with your engine. Not to
mention the savings on only replacing individual coils instead of an entire
distributer cap, Oh and no spark plug wires in your way!

Bettin Huge says:

Thanks K – I’ve always used the iridium because I felt the spark was
stronger and better- but after watching this vid to see this is a “most of
the day project”- I think I’ll trade in the Bosch”s and just use the
Champions…Also thanks Bush for the vid- I too like to watch someone else
tackle the same job to make my experience an “easier one”- especially on my
knuckles.

ReeperzOutdoors says:

LOL I hear ya man!!!! PIA for sure.

Joe Eurey says:

any advice for when it gets stuck on the spark plug? should i oil the
socket a bit?

38006 says:

is this like 2004 dodge ram 1500 ? because this is the closest o can find
on youtube

dscst says:

The dodge dealership just offered to charge me $350 for this hahaha took me
two hours still but thank you!!!!!!

mama wiz says:

Thanks the video helped a lot. It wasnt too bad. Took about 2 1/2-3 hrs.
Boy does it run a Lot Better. Runs smooth and quiet, idles good and doesn’t
stall.

J Myles says:

This video was awesome. Very good instructions, very clear. Posting this
mid change of plugs lol thanks bushbumming man I got a couple Busch for ya
anytime. I was worried it would be a rough process then I watched the
video. Simplified things right up

hockeyfreaku812 says:

Hope u do the fuel filter change.I just bought a 2004.dakota..looking to
change my filter..good vid on the plugs that will help me..

bass head says:

a little pb blaster with silicone formula spray it on the socket prior to
removal helps.oh yeahtake the air hat off more power and easier plug
removal next time anything holler mopar power

Bettin Huge says:

ok just did the entire plug change out and its NOT a “most of the day
project”. I took my time and it only took 2-1/2 hours at best. Take your
time and remove the “clips” and the top of the air cleaner and the brackets
that hold the air cleaner chamber to the top of the motor and it’s smooth
sailing. Blow out the plug areas with compressed air Before you dive in
cause if they’re dirty- that dirt will fall into the cylinders. You DON’T
want that- and only use copper type plugs- per Dodge.

bushbumming29 says:

yeah it sucks but once you start getting them off its not that bad

danritz2 says:

After a LOT of research – NGK 6987 (ZFR6F-11G) plugs are highly
recommended.

smackythefrog23 says:

distributor less ignition, those boots are coils.

Joe Eurey says:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!! Ive been looking to find help on how to
get to those guys for almost a month. Now i can finally get @ ’em.Thanks
man. I ogt a 2001 dakota sport that im in the process of replacing parts im
not sure when they were last replaced. Man, i miss carbuerators. now if i
could just figure out why the engine light came on =P Your efforts are
greatly appreciated.

kevin todd says:

Sure enough, I changed my oil & filter, and then did my plugs after
watching your video. The Durango and Dakota have almost the same setup.
Thanks bushbumming!

ReeperzOutdoors says:

I feel ya brotha!!!!!!! I’ll do yours and you do mine…..lol My dodge 1500
w/ 5.7 hemi has 16 spark plugs and so many wires looks like a spider
web…..lol Mine was a NIGHTMARE!! I do the same thing. Never fails I’ll
drop a tool in the hardest place to get it out….lol Great vid man! I
could do this vid on my truck. To much CUSSING…LOL

Mchurchwell says:

You are right, there is no other videos for this type of engine. I am about
to change mine on my 2003 1500 with the same engine and like to watch these
first and pick up hints and learn from mistakes. Thanks for putting the
video together. May I suggest a ‘gopro’ camera you can just attach to a hat
for your next video?

pashadowops49 says:

I don’t know about saving money, Distributor cap $10 – $15 verses a $37
coil times six or eight depending on the engine 😉 I do agree with the
better response as it is all computers these days. I am old school mechanic
and today’s cars have so many computers on them I switched fields to
network administration heheh

Cindy Seminatore says:

Thanks to your video, changing the spark plugs was not difficult at
all….. even found an evap hose that was cracked while doing the plugs! If
a girl can watch your video and successfully change the plugs anyone can 🙂

Skippy585 says:

The newest of the 4.7’s (287cids) now have 16 plugs to deal with. So I
guess that equals more knuckle breaking for those who dare do threre own
work.

guitarman4u44 says:

thanks now I know I don’t want to do it
