2002 Dodge Stratus Lack of Heat fix #1 heating problem/heater core flush

My first attempt to fix the lack of heat in a 2002 dodge stratus R/T. it didn’t work for me, but I know what’s causing the problem. I will cover that in anot…

If you have only cold air coming out of your heater on your dodge stratus
replace the blend door actuator. It cost only like $17. to test it reach
under the dash & turn the blend door by hand. I cant remember if the
actuator has to be removed first its held on by 2 or 3 screws.

about the smell, I found no filter in the system, so I’d say check the air
intake for debris. as for the other thing, that’s a problem that might be
over my head, this car has given me nothing but problems.

Omar Chisolm says:

did u burp the system? air is in the system

Start with the comments below and read upwards. LOL I can access the lines
at that point to flush out the core. And I can probably splice the lines
back together with a 5/8 nipple and hoes clamps. The coolant in the car is
a nasty reddish color. So I am thinking the previous owner had some leak
issues, and over used StopLeak

Fondlyours1960 says:

So, did you ever find out what the problem was?

jtmagicman25 says:

so far I still haven’t been able to fix it. I’ve taken out the heater core
and flushed it a couple times and it still only heats from the right side.
If I get it sorted, I’ll post a new video explaining how I fix it. this is
a nightmare of a problem to say the least.

jtmagicman25 says:

It would be easier to try that then to replace the heater core. it’s always
good to flush the system out, so give it a try. they make a kit to do that
splice trick.

jtmagicman25 says:

I did my best to unclog the heater core by pulling it out, it’s a pain in
the ass to say the least. it helped a little so I would like to say a new
heater core would fix it, but I’m not entirely sure cause I didn’t replace
it. I just got the dash back in, so I’m going to test it.

Zo Lopez says:

so i saw all the video. i have the same problem on my car. the passenger
side works a little but the driver side doesn’t work at all. how did you
fix it??? i don’t know how to fix mine.

Cmilly says:

So My heating is fine in the stratus but when i have my air conditioner on,
sometimes it will randomly go out and it smells funky and it starts to blow
outside air.

jtmagicman25 says:

the heater core is plugged beyond fixing. so it needs a new one and I’m
not so sure the actuator door is fully engaging. believe me when I say
this, it’s not worth doing yourself, unless you have the proper medication
to calm yourself down. any cleaner strong enough to unclog it, would probly
eat right through the aluminum.

A couple of years ago, I helped my girlfriend buy a 2005 Stratus with the
4cyc. That heater will run you out of the car. It heats up within a few
miles of driving in the cold. I bought a 1999 Stratus about 4 years ago.
With the V6. The heater takes a while to get WARM. and that is all it does.
Sometimes, even though the temp gauge is running up to temp. it sometimes
tends to blow out cooler air. I am contemplating flushing the heater core.
But it is different then the car you had in your video.

Fondlyours1960 says:

My battery compartment is located under the fender well. Because of the V6
intake, there is no way I will be able to get my hands back against the
firewall to remove the clamps off the heater core. And where the other ends
of the heater hoses attache down below, there, again is no room (and a
different clamp, Not a spring clamp). No room to get down in there. So I am
thinking about cutting the heater hoses as they come past the Brake booster.
