Working on a 93 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6. Amazed how much room there is around
the engine. It’s my brothers… it has been burning oil for years, about a
quart a week. Last week it started leaking coolant. The truck has 249,917
miles on it and needs an overhaul. I’m not sure if I want to get into it.
Know the intake manifold gasket is shot because of the oil consumption and
the coolant leak. Ran great, no ticking, so I don’t know if I should go
further into the engine while it’s apart

looks clean, no sludge!!!! this is a great revelation especially on a high
mileage pick-up

glad i have a 1500 that im about to do this to on both banks i got oil
getting around one of coild causen a misfire instead of leakin onto the
manifold like urs was

@thomaschawkins Thanks for the comment! The passenger side has to be the
hardest, with having to unbolt the AC compressor, as the driver’s side
literally took me 20 minutes. The factory gaskets are reusable, but you
have to inspect them CLOSELY. I imagine the mechanic that rebuilt yours
thought it was “good enough” and just put the old ones back on. Sorry to
hear that you had a bad experience, but it is good to know you are on the
right track to getting your Dakota back into shape! Take care!

@KrysGarcia23 Thanks for watching and for the comment! To answer your
question, you should not have any oil spill out when you remove the oil
filler neck. Just make sure you clean the mating area so that when you put
the filler neck back on, it has a clean surface to seal. Thanks again for
watching!

I just cant fix my 2000 driver side valve cover, its bellowing white smoke
and even with a new cover+gasket it still leaks just as badly, I might have
to scrap this thing over it….

TheTexasCoder says:

@x99j Thanks for the comment! I felt that the heads were pretty clean, for
the miles it has. After I get all my normal maintenance done, I may come
back and put performance cams in it, just for fun. 🙂 Thanks for watching!

excellent video

Chad Hawkins says:

im about to be doing this on mine…it’s leaking on the same spot as yours
right after i just had the motor rebuilt… i can even smell the oil when
it’s running and it smokes a lil after i turn it off. just a little… guy
did a horrible job and i had to replace the cam and the crank sensor that u
showed.

Neal Locke says:

have you ever changed the cam chain tensioner?

Chad Hawkins says:

Oh yeah they were both split. Even notice he replaced one of the PVC valves
on the head and I broke the other one. But yeah whole job took maybe 3 hrs
if that. Wasn’t too bad. Did it just how u did. Thanks again.

Hollis Prince says:

I’m taking off the driver’s side valve cover. The brake master cylinder is
in the way. Do I have to remove it too?

KrysGarcia23 says:

Excellent video! I am also about to attempt this gasket replacement. One
question, are there any issues with oil spilling or leaking when you take
off the oil fill cap?

Brandon Diaz says:

I do this kinda thing every day and let me tell you…watchin was
painful…I was like how log is he going to turn that bolt befor he finds
out it does not come out.
