I think I’ll need to do this to mine as well. What was your starting
issues? Where you getting a click when you turn your key….and click every
time you turn the key to start? Usually after a few tries and it would
start?

Would really appreciate seeing a video of removing & installing a neutral
safety
switch on a Dodge Ram 1500 made with some good lighting so to be able to
see it . thanks

nice video, quick and concise, and the coverage of something pretty common
in my mind is vital…great work…..i cant wait to get my own truck soon,
it looks so easy to DIY.

sirk456 says:

I couldn’t get the top bolt out of the starter, this video is great to tell
you the basic but doesn’t really help…. sorry bud

bigdaddyww1 says:

Doesn’t really show anything besides “the finished products”

Patricia Hummel says:

very clear camera work. very helpful. i have the exact same truck. I got
the starter out. now I need to find those contacts, and re-install, thanks
for great video. keep doing it. I plan to keep my truck a long time. james.

john doe says:

thank you very helpful!!!

Clayton Hamm says:

For the record you can reach the top bolt from under the truck all you need
is 9″ of socket extension and a second set of eyes to guide you. I found
that alot easier than reaching down through the engine bay. Great video

Patricia Hummel says:

i was wondering where did you get your parts from?

LittleofLife says:

You don’t actually show how to remove the starter lol. That’s what I want
to see

patrick woods says:

@24dodgecummins1 question y does your truck have two batteries i have a
f250 gas but it only has one it one for glow plugs?

rotorcraft4life says:

free to keep posting videos

dtru11 says:

What were your original symptoms? I have an ’01 that when I turn the
ignition I get a single click and the nothing. This might happen a few
times then it fires.

dwela says:

Used the video to help me with the kit install, crossed my fingers and she
started right up. One of the old contacts was like new the other was about
the thickness of a thin potato chip. Next up power steering line then lift
pump r&r. Thanks again for the video.

dwela says:

Nice video, I’ll be doing this in a couple of hours. Will let you know how
it goes.

chevypower25 says:

the cummins dont have glow plugs they have a heater block on the intack and
the two batteries is for the large amount of cranking amps required in
order to turn the motor over

Tim Glidewell says:

24dodgecummins1 says:

Freedom50Five says:

Want to save a LOT OF TIME??? I used a 3/8″ air ratchet and 2 extensions
for the top bolt and bottom inside bolt. Took 5 seconds each. Only needed
the boxend for the bottom outside bolt. Thanks for the video – big help.

Brandon Burton says:

wow i had no clue that cummins only maxed out at 4000 rpm

Clunk49 says:

Great video 24dodgecummins, I’ll pass it along on the sites. I got to the
top bolt w/12point 10mm w/3″ extension & ratchet on my cousin’s ’99.

a VP44 to remedy my slow start issues. So glad it was just the starter.!!!

24dodgecummins1 says:

@dwela cool man let me know

glodo89 says:

Just had to do this today to my 06 commins. Pain in the butt to get that
top bolt out. I had to get mine from the bottom. Couldn’t get to it from
the top. But after I got it back in it fired up first try. No more ticking!
Thanks for the video though.

24dodgecummins1 says:

@dwela thats good to hear man glad i could help you

dtru11 says:

Changed out the starter this morning. Took about 1 1/2 hours. Fired up
effortlessly with new starter. Thanks for the tips. BTW- was able to get to
top bolt from the top after getting dip stick out of the way. I have pretty
decent sized forearms which made it difficult but not impossible. Once I
got about elbow deep from the top things went ok. Also, about 6 weeks ago a
shop told me my starter was fine. I was having slow starting issues & based
on their assessment I was looking hard at replacing

yovo68 says:

Thanks for this vid! Great help when the starter on my ’98 12-valve died.
Once I got the starter out, I got the kit from LarryBs and rebuilt it. $60
in parts and a couple of hours of work and that Denso starter is as good as
new. BTW on the 12-valve the top bolt is accessible from below.
