when this happens, the cat con also has to be replaced. Im buying the mopar
MPI intake manifold today that eliminates the plenum problem from ever
happening again.
what were your symptoms that let you to believe your intake was bad?
Done that before….Busted my fuckin knuckles and sprayed blood all over my
work. Nothing like blood and oil mix with a dash of gas in the wound
Finished it in 5 hours. That was with lunch and a trip to the parts store.
No more power loss, oil consumption and better gas mileage. The kit I
bought was $30 less than the Hughes when all was said and done.
I had the same problem. I also saw that Chrysler re-flashed my comp, so it
will run better without having to replace the gasket. I had it done by a
auto shop. he did it but he let the gasket junk fall into my motor in turn
clogging my oil pick up. He then said I need a new motor. I just payed him
500 bucks! so….. I took off the oil pan my self, its a 4×4. op-ed to
change my oil pump and cleaning the pick up. now it works grate, and I have
340000km on it. I’m in Canada that’s why km and not miles. oh,,, and I

And if you’re that close to the distributor cap, should replace that, too.

Well it probably IS a good idea to replace a defective part before it
really goes bad. The reason its defective is because one piece is aluminum
and one is steel, and they expand differently under temperature changes.
Because of this, eventually one part gets broken. The repair kits include
both pieces made of aluminum, which keeps the problem from happening.

thing on friday through wed… i dont have work though i hope to finish in

Do you have to put new intake bolts? Do you have to put the plastic covers
back on the plug wires? Is the plenum pan reusable? Is it necessary to
remove the Throttle body?

You mentioned that you were going to remove the AC unit from the truck to
reduce the drag. What was the reason you decided not to do this? When you
mentioned it I was thinking about the belt and if there was a shorter one
readily available at the auto store for others who might have done this?
pretty much any torque wrench is good enough as long as it functions in the
correct range. Beam torque wrenches do the same thing as clickers, usually
even more accurately, but you have to watch the indicator every time.
you may have a bad IAC have the same problem with my truck
i’m get ready to fix my plenum gasket on my 99 ram 1500. but instead of
replaceing the plenum gasket. i’m just going to pull the whole intake
manifold off and replace it with the hughes fi airgap intake manifold. no
more plenum gasket to go out!

whats even better is taking your intake off, buying the Hughes performance
plenum repair kit, and once you finally get your intake off and flip it
over and noticing the previous owner already put the hughes kit on it! and
your still burning oil. welp guess its time to do a rebuild. oh and did you
have to use RTV or any liquid gasket in the corners of the intake?
I’m no mechanic, but that’s how it was explained to me.

from your old gasket; did you get a whistling sound kinda like an exhaust
leak, when the truck was cold?
what about the intake bolt . How did you get the broken one out???
For those watching this, if you have not changed the plugs. Change them now
when the intake is out of the way.

more bull shit plenum hysteria. don’t drive your truck like a hot rod and
you won’t blow gaskets.
In regards to your cooler lines, put a pair of channel locks on them and
give me a good twist. Always works for me
Dont forget that the bolts can be too long for the hole depth and bottom
out before applying enough pressure to properly hold the gasket in place.
You can grind down the unthreaded nipple or use washers on them.

Hey man… My brother might have this same issue on his 1998 5.2L. How did
you diagnose this issue on your truck? The only thing he’s having right now
is a loss in power. It’s not smoking, or idling rough, or anything. It just
doesn’t have the pickup that it should… What did yours do to make you
suspect that the plenum gasket was messed up?
I have a 5.2 that lasted 245,000 miles before it needed one. They do go
bad, but some last longer than others.
Could have made a alum pan and welded it on there.. That is what I ment..
instead they purposely did this
@cedaytonarydr Pull the air cleaner off. and look down into the intake with
a flashlight…. If u see any oil or if it looks black, your gasket is
blown.
