Great Video Jesse I just got a Sebring Touring V6 Full, with 145.000
miles, and this car runs like new I love it. Went to my mechanic and he is
going to replace the gasket do a tune up and ready to go.
My 19999 2.7 300m has managed over 270000km´s without any sign of oil
sludge. I believe the former owner mentioned that he had replaced the
waterpump once.
People hate to admit to a mistake, this Dodge Stratus was a serious
mistake, massive failure rates.
STAY AWAY FROM ANY DODGE STRATUS!!!
DODGE period does not give a shit for the consumer, research it.
STAY AWAY !!!!!!PLEASE, I work on cars and trucks, do not buy this money
burner.
thanks so much man i know this is kind of old but i just bought a 01
sebring with 67k on it that may be something i should get a look at before
its too late.
What ive noticed aboutt this car is that you have to keep changing the oil
regularly. Plus i suggest to change what ever car parts that screw up on
you by yourself. Because delaerships will screw your cars up on purpose to
keep you coming back.
@Grodinz dont put higer viscosity….your oil pressure is bad if your
replace it and the light comes back on your wires to the sensor are soaked
in oil and need to be replaced as well..i just replaced mine and the light
came back on due to bad wires… common on all chryslers as most of them
use the same stupid sensor.
All american cars are wank. Yu all have very strange car senses. Like
huuuuge engines with loads of torque that isnt needed. Oh and engines that
use loooooooads of fuel. Wake up america bunch of dumbasses
@mike2moto I would recommend not buying one. Honestly. I’ve been through
two Sebring Convertibles. Repair costs are through the roof for these cars.
Parts are through the roof. And the life span is low. Plenty of people that
followed the maintenance schedule ended up with a $20-30k lawn ornament at
80k miles. Expect to pay about $800 to have that pump and timing chain
replaced. And since it’s an interference engine, if the chain does break
your going to need valves also.
Keep fresh water in the block, and that water pump/ all water pumps will
last a long long time. its the corrosivness of dirty old coolant thats rust
the pump blades, or the coolant is good enouch to cool the engine so the
weakest parts of the pump (gaskets) will detereorate.
@blaikepp well no wonder why the pressure light doensnt come back on….. a
thicker oil will seal things up more….but the oil pressure light will
come on simply because the oil pressure switch goes bad…the 2.7 engine
from 1997-2004 is recommended to use 5w30 and the 2005-present are to use
5w20 due to thin oil passageways… 10w40 is a bit thick for a 2.7 change
your waterpump out and put a new oil pressure sensor in and use 5w30
synthetic and you will be set for a long time..
@hairyfatslobpig It´s a common problem that this trannys (A604 41 TE – The
Ultradrive) didn´t get maintenanced the right way. Do a oil AND filter
change every 10 – 13 000 miles, only with the original Mopar ATF+4. I also
installed a second air to heat tranny oilcooler, works great. So, if this
transmission gets maintenanced as it should, it´ll do 200 000 miles. BUT of
course some sensor or something like that could fail, like on every
electronic controlled auto trans.
I’ve been doing my oil changes, every 2500 miles. I’m actually on my 3rd
engine (factory failed at 30,000 miles, next one lasted another 70,000, and
the current one is going on 20,000. I recommend to all my friends and
family, that unless they get it for free, stay away from cars with this
engine. Only reason I’m keeping it is because it’s paid off and it’s
cheaper to replace the motor than to buy a new car. POS engine period and
high maintenance.
Finally I am starting to see people that are getting out the word these
motors are good. Sure, bad design with the pump, but… seriously, why
don’t people check the oil “often” enough. Most people cant identify
anything under the hood. I actually smell my oil. There is a difference.
No older 3.8l GM engines, Toyota, or Mercedes burn oil, what crack are you
smoking? Its simply a matter of wear in any engine. I’ve seen all of those
burn oil, and I used to own a well-maintained Benz that of course burned
oil because it was older. I’m with you on the Ford tranny’s thought.
once again an asinine design….”lets put the water pump where it will leak
into the oil” even better “lets make it prone to leaking, so that every
50,000 miles the sucker who bought it can pay $1800 at the dealer for the
repair!” any regularly servicable part on an engine should be readily
accessible, or the design should not be used!
If you have excessive blowby, make sure that the PCV valve, hoses and
breathers are unrestricted and doing their job before going further. A
faulty PCV system will build up sludge quicker than anything!!!
congratz on your intrepid still running i had a 2006 with the 2.7L had
125,000 miles when the engine shit out i do ALL my oil changes at 3,000
miles on that intrepid as well and STILL shit the bed. now i have a 1997
intrepid with the 3.5L with 158,000 same oil change times EVERY 3,000 mile
and still runnin strong
Continued….up and down over and over (almost like its shifting from 3rd
to 4th, but it is not!! The rpm’s stay exactly the same1 Completely
consistent and u feel nothing!! what do you think this could be??? P0441
says NVLD but could be many different things imo, and what ive read.. dont
know where to start first?? any suggestions?? Btw thx for the video!! I
totally agree with proper maintenance these engines can last forever!! thx
again! Jay
my cousin has a 2006 chrysler sebring with the 2.4 i think.. and the
transmission was horrible and she never took care of it. im surprised that
car is still running.
@allroadsawesome I can think of a few other engines that are worse, but
they do suck. I have a Commander 4.7 with 90K on it and no oil burning,
Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6 with 200K on it and 1 quart per 3K burning, 88
Dodge Ram 5.9 with 380K and very little oil burning (cant tell how much,
leaks like a SOB.
I have a 02 concorde with a 2.7 liter.. Engine rebuilt, mopar water pump,
and tim. chain as well.. Now I have some emission codes such a p0441,
p0056, p0158.. Runs and starts and sounds great.. Only problem i can see as
well as the codes of course is the fact that it seems i have a air flow
problem.. When idle its fine, when around town seems fine.. Problem is at
hwy constant speed 45,55,70 etc.. Foot in same position or even cruise, i
hear the engine/air flow engine rev higher and lower.
The 2.7 is notorious and has many design flaws. That’s one of the reasons
the horsepower was cut back over the engine production lifetime. I
purchased an 01 Stratus SE that was a one owner car and was maintained per
schedule B, all oil changes done by dealership. I purchased the car at 25K
miles and did the first oil change at 26K and changed over to Mobil-1 Full
Syn. Didn’t matter, by 50K miles it sludged and I did not have a waterpump
failure or timing chain failure.
If you want to save a 2.7 v6 (especially intrepid) -Switch to Fully
synthetic oil with a Quality filter that has a good anti drain back valve (
so not fram) -The PCV valve often blocks up on these (have it
checked/replaced) -Keep coolant changed….leaking water pump on these
often leak into crankcase. (not good) These were designed with 1 quart/
liter to little oil capacity…so using a higher quality oil will help them
a lot. The timing chain often breaks on these. Use the better oil….
is it a status or a intrepid?
130k is high miles?
Almost bought a car with the 2.7 got it checked out was leaking oil and
antifreeze like a mf. Nice car though! Sad :{(

Odds are its probably the third engine in the car. The 2.7 is an enginering
nightmare!
All american cars are wank. Yu all have very strange car senses. Like
huuuuge engines with loads of torque that isnt needed. Oh and engines that
use loooooooads of fuel. Wake up america bunch of dumbasses
like me I use API certified ENEOS oil 5w30 with wix filter in the 2.7 and
it still runs well to this day.
2 days later his engine failed…due to oil sludge…lol
It is a little expensive to change the Water Pump, Timing Chain …but he
the poster is correct that is how you save them.

this is a really good video, I have a chrysler sebring 2.7 2002
ford uses 5-20 wt in their 3.8, wonder if doing that to the 2.7 will
improve the issues being mentioned here…
my cousin has a 2006 chrysler sebring with the 2.4 i think.. and the
transmission was horrible and she never took care of it. im surprised that

this look almost exactly the same as my 300M i got the 3.5l High output
thought hahahaha 🙂

How to prevent sludge? Change your oil ON TIME, not when you “get around to
it”. It’s almost magic!
I have a 02 concorde with a 2.7 liter.. Engine rebuilt, mopar water pump,

All my cars made it well past 220,000 MILES,except for my dodge intrepid.

chevys the way to go!
Regular maitnence to oil changes everything low miles
What do you think of synthetic oil . Is it less prone to sludge formation?
The only way to prevent the sludge is buy another vehicle. They all suck.
mine just failed 3 days ago, wish i would have known all this earlier
If you want to save a 2.7 v6 (especially intrepid) -Switch to Fully

@Shcubbebah Yeah mine definitely did not last forever. Conked at 68K.
