Daniel White says:

Hey my moms gotta 1999 Chrysler t & n shes having a problem where when she try’s to start it the car goes into theft mode. so she has to bang and bang on the dashboard till something catches i was going to take apart her dash panel and get back and solder some pieces today. what do you suppose i should look out for, this is my first time taking on an electrical job

ronaldo mangalino says:

no sir this will not be a fuel issue, its definitely anti theft system activated, dont be deceived if you had a case of start and stall and you check the fuel pressure with a gauge it reads zero, this is normal when the anti theft is activated due to the immobilizer system will cut out your fuel system, thats why the enging starts and stalls. sir even you completely disconnect your instrument cluster still the engine will run normally, cluster is only a reminder of your gauges and indicator lamp

DIVADEDIOS1 says:

Does the crysler town and country 2001 has the replace circuit board

DIVADEDIOS1 says:

And we change so many part is crazy

DIVADEDIOS1 says:

Oooo lord my crysler do the same thing hopely is that same problem thank thank u

IowaCajun says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My instrument panel would quit while driving. I would just give it a whack and everything would come back on. Hubby waits until things totally fail – has no time and those random things are harder to find. Today engine started but wouldn’t keep running. Wouldn’t have tied those two things together if not for your video. Gave the dash a whack and now stays running. Hubby will solder because mine only temporary solution. Now, where do u live? 😉

scott gosa says:

I have the same problem with a 1999 T&C. Took the cluster out and can not find 1 bad connection. I’m definitely at my wits end and my wife is ready to leave it somewhere with the keys in it and a sign that says “free, take it”.

Sarah Mitchell says:

I appreciate your informational video I have a 1998 Town Country LXI Van it has all the same problems as described start run a few seconds then quits, I just took off the mother board and found a couple nipple soldering tips that were broke off, and one that has cracks in the soldering, I have replaced the computer body module at a cost of 500.00 and another couple hundred in tows, I have been at wits end with this problem, I so appreciate your video. I am sure a lot of others will be as well

fenderstratguy says:

Great vid. Thanks a lot for posting. I am going to solder my friend’s board soon as he takes it out. He is a mechanic but not an electronics whiz so would rather not fiddle with a soldering iron.

I so happy!

briansmobile1 says:

MOST likely it’s low on trans fluid or the solenoid on the very front lower of the trans is ka-put.

Donna Harris says:

I didn’t watch you solder, so your secret is safe with me. Now I’ve just got to figure out the “limp mode” issue with the transmission on hot days. 🙁

380gb says:

I’m having the same problem. It started right after I disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals and then re hooked it up. Everything worked except for the instrument panel and headlights and there was a continuous beep coming from the engine compartment when the key is on. The car did eventually start running again after sitting for about 15 min. Could this still be just a faulty instrument panel even with the headlights and beeping?

briansmobile1 says:

It’s a pretty easy fix once you know where to look. You’re welcome!

WyldeMagiK says:

Thinking of getting one of these vans…will do/check this first…THANKS!

hellno50 says:

Cool , Dr. Paul poster. Just bought a Town & Country LXI for the family.Rides like a dream but its a bitch to work on. A tune up took 3 1/2 hours . Alot of stuff to remove! I miss the old days of easy repairs…….

briansmobile1 says:

That could be a fuel issue too. I’d fuel pressure test it off and running first thing.

David Cross says:

I have a 2000 Grand Caravan that starts and stalls after about 15-20 seconds my dash lights work could there still be a dashboard issue

briansmobile1 says:

It sounds like an internal transmission issue to me. I’d check the fluid level first. When these leak from the front valve body and get two quarts low, they go into “safe mode” and shift hard at low speed like that.

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome! Thanks for not telling everyone about my super power laser eye beams that I cheat/solder with.

Michael Morley says:

I have a 2003 grand caravan with a 3.8L. The van runs good at all times but on a slow takeoff it after the van worms up it seems to hastate to shift into 2nd only, but if I accelerate faster it will not hastate. I have replaced the Fuel Pump/Filter, Plugs/Wires, Cam Sensor and MAP Sensor. I still has the same problem.
Any help pleas?…

Donna Harris says:

Brian, thank you again. I had been stranded and unable to get my car going a few times. As soon as I started looking for solutions, your video came up. Thank you, and thanks for helping Spanky solder it for me. (I am lucky she is my sister!) You are the best!

briansmobile1 says:

Thanks for the update. And… OUCH! That’s nice they covered the part, but what an unpleasant component of Chrysler ownership. It makes my nose wrinkle and my head go diagonal. On the plus side though, they are some of the best vehicles for quick- low labor time testing through a computer for component tests. I guess that offsets things or evens cost of ownership out.

James M Skipper says:

Brian, just an update on my 1999 T&C BCM problem. I finally had it towed to a dealer. They diagnosed a bad BCM (It was the one I had bought from them and installed myself.) They installed another BCM, reprogrammed it, and the car would start, but the automatic door locks didn’t work. They installed another BCM reprogrammed ( with a guess at my mileage), and now the car operates OK. No charge for the BCM, but $494 labor.

briansmobile1 says:

It’s amazing isn’t it?

Standingwithfeast says:

Being aware and prepare for some time is a good thing. I am glad for your brother that he was prepared. As for many folks who suffered by the layoffs, if I am not wrong that warning signs and voices of warning had gone out years ago. I wonder how bad it has to be before more folks wake up from their sleep.

Devin Stoick says:

Ty so much for your response. I have replaced the cluster and also soldered all the pins on the black plug in, i seen you were soldering the odometer pins? Do they need to be done also? I have checked all of the smaller fuses and they were good. Im stumped and really don’t wanna take it to a dealer. The PCM was just replaced also

briansmobile1 says:

Either you need to add some solder to the back of the pin connectors on the instrument cluster, or you have a blown fuse.

Devin Stoick says:

OK it fixed the start problem. a couple days later … now my gauges don’t work, heat is not adjustable and the center gauges on ceiling don’t work? PLZ help? You know of any issues of this? but still starts!!

briansmobile1 says:

What he proposed was a solution to an old and festered problem. The sequester was inevitable, but is still just a band-aid as apposed to a long reaching solution. My brother in law is affected by it, but has been aware and preparing for it for some time. Folks in the private sector who are experiencing layoffs due to outsourcing, and company failures aren’t so lucky. They typically have little or no warning to prepare.

Standingwithfeast says:

The Creator and Author of Truth never dies, so yeah folks like Ron Paul and his supporters may end up 6 ft under, but the corruption can never destroy ideas that is backed by truth. I hope your business will grow Lord willing even after the beginning of the “Sequester”, which is nothing compare to what Dr. Paul had proposed.

briansmobile1 says:

He would have been shot like JFK, but his example and ideas would survive. I just can’t believe he was willing to work so hard to do it!

Standingwithfeast says:

Thanks for the video. Ron Paul would have been a great president.

Theryansmithproject says:

Deffinently correct on this one Brian. Love your vids keep them up. Your my go to guy for auto repairs. And awesome chicken coop video!

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome!

rhinoface1 says:

My alarm went off and then would start but then idle out. I would rev it but it would die out again. You’ve helped alot. I may not have the ability yet to work on it myself but I can diagnose it better to my mechanic. Thanks!

MetalMommaG says:

This video was extremely helpful. I have a 99 chrysler town and country it did the same thing to me yesterday, started then died 3 times and the bottom lights wouldn’t come on then today it did start right up, but i’m still gonna tear it up and fix the board.

A2892Z says:

Thats the thing with many modern cars a lot of the stuff runs through the dials panel to stop theft and clocking. A fuse blew in my car which is for the speed sensor and the speedo didn’t work. The car idled fine but when you drove the speedo stayed at 0 and when i come to put the clutch in the engine would die rather then drop to idle. Replaced the fuse all was good after that Guessing the engine kept dying to avoid driving without the speedo and stopping the mileage counter from counting miles

briansmobile1 says:

I would check all your ground connections from the battery negative to body and body to computer etc. first.

Sorman26 says:

I am working a 1997 Toyota Camry and it’s acting just the way you’ve explained. Couple of things I’ve noticed. The clock is currently dead and the shift indicator is also dead. Could this be the issue. I just trying to figure out the issue(s) still.

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome.

Tasha Jackson says:

the fluid is good thanks for replying im going out today and doing the dash cluster!! Im hope this does the trick and im not haveing to do a trans job!! Thanks

briansmobile1 says:

It may be a problem with your PRNDL circuit but it may also be that your transmission fluid is low and you’re in safe mode.

Tasha Jackson says:

i have this problem going on but can it also cause your van to not want to shift when you put it in gear! Almost like its not reading that its in gear? I have been driving mine with dash problem for about 2 or 3 months by just hitting the dash! But now when i put it in gear it does not shift unless i hit the dash or gun it ? Never had any problems with the trans. just all of a sudden was wondering if me banging on it to get the dash to work could have knocked something loose with that? Thanks

Dave Vorhies says:

when you start it up it runs for a few seconds and dies it may not be your head unit it could be your fuel pump try hitting the tank while someone cranks it and see if it starts I had this very similar issue with my T&C and replaced a head unit and still nothing until it occurred to me the fuel is not pumping to the injectors and it turns out it was the Fuel Pump and fuel filter

Dave Vorhies says:

the 2 burn marks your seeing in the do and selector is Normal its just the LED heating up its totally normal the burn- in is done at the assembly plant that makes them when they QC test them they will leave burn marks indicating they are working

perverso12345 says:

Hey Brian youre awesome Man ,keep up the good work .I got a 2000 caravan 3.3 liter and recently is dying but happends every once and a wild not sure what it is think I may have same issue ?
