With all due respect, it was not an issue of no maintenance. We maintain
our vehicles fairly well and this one was no exception. If anything, its
constant breakdowns led to its getting more maintenance than our other
vehicles. I believe this van was simply a lemon. It was always being
repaired (sometimes for pretty major stuff) when under warranty.
@mrdestoryit Most of the time, yes. The sludge came as a big surprise,
though it looks worse than it really was in this video. We did change the
oil regularly…
You know, I’ve been meaning to ask you about that, but I figured it had
been too long since I forgot. I’ll send a private message soon.
It can’t end well when the Keykeeper says “Alright, Turn it”
Geez you really seem to like using the words. Keykeeper.
i turned it off when i heard reliant lol. i hate k cars.Chrysler’s worst
design ever. u guys are grt though.peace from Oklahoma city
no, they made the grand voyager and the town and country
Make it a diesel… Like Dave at Davidsfarm did…
What cause the noise and how did you fix it ?
This happend to my Grand Voyager last year.. But in my case the little ring
of metall did not fell into the oil pan. I parked the car in the garage.
Next morning i was going to fill the washer tank up. The car was running
and of course with the hood open. And suddenly the little ring popped off
and almost cracked the windshield. Glad i didn’t get it in my forehead. I
waited for a week to get a new ring like that. But its not very hard to fix
if you got a new ring. ( Sorry for bad english )
The sludge is from the overheating.
why did the video cut off at the end
It’s a Schumacher Electric SSC-1500A 15/10/2 amp battery charger. It’s an
interesting design, built around a switchmode power supply (instead of the
heavy transformer and diodes that most other designs use) and a 50
instruction STMicroelectronics microcontroller. This makes it light and it
should also be highly efficient. Not that I took it apart or anything. 🙂

So what did happen to this little van? Is it going to have a new engine or
did you scrap it? Looks like a nice and tidy car and it seems like it might
be worth the effort and money 🙂
This engine has had some noise in its top end for a while…maybe a lifter?
It’s been making that noise in the right place, so that the two could be
related. The Red Rocket still runs great and has a very young (total miles
driven = 76700) engine and transmission. I’m hanging onto it for a while
yet. Don’t know about the Honda. If cleaned, the interior would be in
superb condition. It was fun to drive it, and we are short a car now…
damn that a bummer so is it a pistion skirt or a bearing? could not tell
good luck man
No, this van was nearly always driven on the highway, for at least twenty
miles whenever it was driven.
Kind of like the mystery oil leak I had in my truck. Oil started leaking
from around the drain plug nut, 2 months and almost 2500 miles after the
last oil change. Still can’t figure that one out. Regardless, since the 4.3
v6 Vortec’s oil pan removal procedure is enough to make a grown man cry, I
am still using temporary plugs. Have had zero issues with them.
What’s the third one?
Hey there. If you ever get around to repairing the van I have a massive
stockpile of 3.3L Parts from a 2000 FlexFuel engine. Pistons, heads, even a
brand new crankshaft. Send me a direct message if you are interested. I’m
working on doing an engine swap in a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager at the
moment.
@uxwbill ohhh not good 🙁 evr get it repaired?
No maintance it’s the reason guys!
The Keykeeper said it very well in this video when he said “oh shit”.
Someone already wrecked that engine by knocking the oil pan off of it. Dave
“fixed” the spun bearings in a crude way, and while I don’t remember the
details, I know Loctite was involved somehow. You’d have to be dedicated to
put a GM 3800 into the van. I imagine lots of fabrication and swearing
would be requirements. And I can’t say this is something Chrysler engines
are famous for–I’d never seen a malfunction so drastic with any other.
It is still around. We are looking at places to get an engine. One of the
best deals so far seems to be $795 shipped. But is it too good to be true?
That’s what we’re trying to find out.
@grawey77 We took pretty good care of this van’s engine and changed the oil
regularly, so I’m sure it wasn’t that.
I am still shocked that this 3.3 failed in that fashion. As well as you
maintain your cars, that sludge is also troubling.
Wow. That sucks. At least it didn’t fall out of park and roll at a high
velocity into the local 500 year old tree like my truck did.
Next time, we’ll leave the sun turned on. Seriously, these short days are
terrible. I hate coming home from work and…oh, it’s dark.
@jaimehatespapi i was thinking the same thing about the key keeper!
i think u could use better lighting just saying tho
to bad. really wonder what went wrong. i have owned two of these vans with
3.3L motors the first one had 236,000 miles on it and the one im driving
right now has 160,000 mile with no problems.
Has the engine been shut off when it hasn’t been fully warmed up many times?
two cars with #2 pistons damaged…………
I don’t think we have a plan yet. We have a couple of options–buying a
1996 Ford minivan that has been in storage and belonged to a little old
lady, fixing this van and not buying the other van, or not fixing this van
at all. I think a lot will hinge on how torn up the piston is. What a
disaster!
this is a prove off good oil was user on this engine!!!!!!not mobil 1
…..is supermarket oil!!!!!!!i have a same chrysler and same engine and
change oil evey 6500 miles and i user full synthetic 5/30 mobil 1 and my
voyager have 450.000 miles and runner like new never let me down…..is
very good mpv and very good engines!!!!
Quite interesting.
he prised the bearings out sanded them down drilled the holes out again and
used locktite to put the bolts back in but he only needed it for the farm
really
your oilpan appear to be full of “asphalt” what type of oil do you use
???????. I planning to use something else. sincerely good luck! (-:
wome, they never change the oil. just turn the key and go
That is what you call a faceplam moment.
