Why did Chrysler make a recall of their vehicles in order to replace this unreliable part with a better one? This is absolutely unacceptable!

04/25/13 This just happened to mine the part is 10.00 thru dodge the dealer wnated 2 hrs labor 180.00 screw them! I had someone nice neough to fix it free. The cheap piece of shit clip breaks for no reason!. I drove the car ,parked it went out in the morn and it was brok! unreal. All these posts of same problems and thers no recall? Unreal! no wonder everyone buys japanese cars
oh and the part only cost me $8
It’s the same thing as the part for my 07 chrysler 300 if you explain it to the parts guy at the dealership he’ll know what you’re talking about, I just said the pink thingy and he knew but i believe it’s called the shift lock mechanism

take the silver part off and the black par with the drive, park, reverse etc. symbols on them and look down in there you should see a pink part, push back on it while putting the car in gear and it will go in gear, if you put it back in park before replacing that part that’s all you have to do

this video helped me a lot today. what it doesn’t show just in case someone needs the info is that the screwdriver isn’t so much as pushing the wire as it is pushing the “pink thingy” in and allowing you to move the lever. there is another video that shows a way to change that piece out once this happens and the part was $7.49 and took me 15 minutes from start to finish. very easy hit me up for the link.

Apparently this is a common issue with 300s and Magnums. This just happened to my friend’s 300 yesterday (9/4). It happened to my 300 a few weeks ago. Fortunately, my extended warranty took care of it, along with a defective gas tank that caused the car to cut off when on a full tank.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH, I was able to temporarily fix this crap and move my car. I was ready to tow and pay all sorts of money unbelievable! You guys are GREAT and a lifesaver.

You could have done that without removing everything. you could have just taken off the chrome plastic piece and stuck a screw driver down and pulled that same cable to the side

Thanks guys!!! Same problem with my Charger, the damn cable came out and by moving that plastic thingy on the left it was easy to put the thing in ‘Drive’ again.
