I was having problems with jumping needles and then all the instrument

@ Epix182, Thank you for the video. I learned a lot. I tried reinstall, but
am having the same problem. Any Suggestions? Thanks Justin K.

Epix182 says:

Thanks, but this was never meant to be an instructional video on how to
solder.

factorxfiles says:

Used this video as a guide. Thanks to you my speedometer works again. And I
have an idea of how to solder. ty ty ty.

Luvettes91 says:

So I attempted this and well the soldering was easy since I have a low watt
pen. Anyways, apparently someone soldered the pins that the circuit board
is supposed to “slide off of” and one of the pins popped out after removing
as much of the previous solder as I could. But Thanks for this tutorial
anyways Epix 182 I learned something.

Ricardo Cuellar says:

Thanks a lot for your video, I fixed my cluster and now works great,
americans are the best on innovation, help and so on. Thanks again!!!

thegamerock says:

You can swap out the milage piece from one cluster to another.

Epix182 says:

I’ve been testing mine for over a year now and I haven’t had a single
problem!

Epix182 says:

You have cracked solder on the circuit board.

danybuudp says:

Es delis mejores carros yo tengo uno y si son rapidos

Epix182 says:

Oh thats right. You can’t show me where to buy a new cluster for these cars
because no one manufactures them any more. Have a nice day.

harvey smaltz says:

Thanks for making the effort to record this. I know how to solder, and
probably would have guessed those would be the problem pins, BUT I HATE
GUESSING. Always nice to have Columbus make the first trip……. Thanks
again. aka flakingpaint on neons.org

Carlos Martinez says:

mr930turbo says:

COmusic7 says:

Hey, my neon’s temp and gas gauge on occasion (seems to happen more when
the dash is hot from sitting in the sun) get stuck half way up the gauge,
would this be the same problem? its only those two.

jim haynes says:

What type of solder do you use?

SpiritualHearts says:

Nice video but I am stuck because I don’t know how to remove the cluster
from the dashboard. Would you please give us novice users some advice as to
how this is done? I’m concerned about simply popping it out and then not
being able to put it back in.

Epix182 says:

My pleasure legend

Archy Camposagrado says:

got the same problem.. my dodge neon gauge is not functioning all of them..
ill try this tomorrow.. i dont have any experience in soldering but ill do
practice it.. i dont have soldering iron either so ill buy it tomorrow..
wish me luck…

Epix182 says:

There are a bunch of threads on how to repair it, but since people asked
way too many questions I figured I’d do up a vid just to clear up how to do
it.

dukepennington45 says:

I love this video! This problem has been plaguing me for years. I’ve tried
several times to find the problem, and there it was, just like on yours-
tiny little cracks in the solder. Took me less than an hour to fix it. My
fuel guage works and now I’ll never run out of gas again! Thank you.

calzam says:

Thank you so much! After 3 years of intermittent dash activity, my husband
found your posting and fixed my car in an hour. Great work.

Epix182 says:

On my title it says the mileage is exempt…. Probably wont matter for any
first gen because of the low resale value on them anyways.

rav3n83 says:

Oh yea, check your radiator cap. You’d be surprised…. I discovered i had
a bad one after hearing the water boiling out of the overflow tank (while
driving!) Air bubbles get in with a bad radiator cap and obstructs the flow
of water / radiator fluid. Stagnant burning fluid may then damage the seals
on your radiator, causing it to leak at the top (usually). I’m a newb with
mechanics, but i’ve owned 3 neons! ^_^

Scott Makseyn says:

Great vid! Had mine out, fixed and back in the car in 20 minutes

Epix182 says:

It sounds like your thermostat is bad. Its a 7 dollar part. Might as well
change it regardless. For the fuel, you probably have a bad fuel level
sending unit in the tank. The needles jump around quickly or just don’t do
anything at all when the solder on the circuit board is cracked.
