Square Body Chevy – How To Fix Gear Shift Indicator – Plastic Guide Replacement
#automobile #car #painting #diy #howto #squarebody
This is a very common issue because the plastic bracket that holds the indicator string/cable to the steering column becomes brittle and snaps over time, causing the PRNDL pointer to stop moving or hang loosely.
Common Solutions to the #1 Question
Here’s and easy fix for repairing your shifter indicator. How do I fix the broken plastic cable guide or the broken string on the steering column?

Hi Pete, I sure love your Chevy truck! Thanks for the tip on fixing the shifter indicator, but I got a question did you reclear the paint or just buff it out? It sure looks GREAT! Thanks for all your videos I always enjoy them!
Thanks for showing how to fix this indicator!
Pete I have a 77 that came with a warped (bowed) hood. Apparently someone didn’t oil the hinges good and tried to close it. I am told those hoods warp easy if the hinges are not kept properly oiled or greased.
What is the way to fix those warped hoods?
Thanks,
Phillip Hall
Nice fix Pete there’s always a way thanks for the tip. Hello fro WV it’s been cold here for weeks how’s the weather out there
Always making it happen my friend Pete. Long time viewer. Keep on keeping on your friend Robert Kemp.
What a great solve, this helped me out a bunch, thank you.
Thanks for the tip pete!
Think I’d just bought one of those hidden antennas they go from. Like 20-50.09 and tuck the oem wire under dash .idk what a windshield costs that’s just my opinion hard to say if it doesn’t fall off the next windshield because of how cheap shit is made anymore
Those ipc fit tight into the dash ,
I don’t know how many of those bastards I’ve replaced and had to adjust so they are in the right spot , some the shift indicators had a spot in the column others you just had to slide and shift back and forth to get it set
what’s up pete, im from a small island in the caribbean called Trinidad, my dad was a huge fan of you, not because he’s that type of guy, he just respected the way you were completely blunt about your fuckin work, he spoke the exact same way you do and believed in all the same exact things, he passed away before we got to finish painting my 1998 mitsubishi libero wagon we were painting together. he left it in 2k primer and i was 16, today im 20 and im redid the entire process from filler to sealer to 2K primer, basecoat & clearcoat goes on tomorrow. i watched like all your videos so i got it. keep bein a fuckin perfectionist
Pete, I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m glad you are back on the square body. Something ’I for one’ am really interested in. Go get em Pete!
