Kimberly Kling says:

ding, clothes are done. thanks for the vid!

skirkland1980 says:

main thing is to make sure the rotor is pointing to #1 on the cap with the
engine at tdc #1 on the compression stroke.

skirkland1980 says:

Works on many distributors and not just limited to chevy. You can continue
turning the engine clockwise. You’ll have to make two revolutions.

Ron S says:

Does this installation method apply to other distributors on small block
chevys, like points and coil type? and can you do it with the engine in
the car?

vstingray says:

did u mark the harmonic balancer before u start the job??

skirkland1980 says:

@DeltaForceSFODD thank you. i do have another video on setting valve lash
but its a little trickier to get right in my opinion.

skirkland1980 says:

Sorry but it looks fine on my computer.

brandixie says:

Very helpful video! Thanks! Do you have anymore videos like this? This
helped so much!

candorguy says:

This is one the best video I’ve seen in the installation of a HEI
distributor in a small block chevy. Rotating the harmonic balancer is a
trade secret in order for the distributor to drop down properly. Auto
repair books will never tell you that. My hats off to you! Thanks a Million!

Laundry is done.

skirkland1980 says:

@fifo32 setting the timing to spec would ensure that timing is not the
cause. there is a single wire connector on the firewall to disable timing
advance. make sure it is plugged in. if not it will also turn on the
service engine light. also check the codes anyway. Those engines did have
trouble with the distributor pickup getting rusty and causing a poor
running condition. just pop the cap and rotor off and see.

ImAdapt73 says:

Thank you! i think i can finish my intake manifold change out now.

skirkland1980 says:

I don’t mean any disrespect but maybe the settings on your monitor need
adjustment. Thanks for watching, 🙂

Tylek D says:

That is the best on ive seen also…I got a question tho…I have the same
kinda distributor in my 71 olds cutlass…Iam getting fire and gas from the
car but it still wont start…PLEASE…any info???

blackericdenice says:

I knew this 25 years ago but turning engine to drop dist- all the way is
new. Good job.

bigboy19487 says:

now it gets tricky when you dont have a timing tab on the balencer. you
have to put it on compresshion then take a skrew driver and put in in the
hole and turn the motor till it stops moving up lol. or take off your valve
cover and put your motor on compresshion by putting your finger in the #1
hole and turn it till it pushes air out the turn it till the first two
valves are compleatly closed

jonah molina says:

When the distributor drops in after turning the engine a little bit do you
HAVE to rotate backwards to go back to TDC? I can’t go back on my engine
because I end up unscrewing the bolt

terryf313 says:

good explanation but LEAVE THE DANG LIGHT ON

NikeBlazer623 says:

does inproves alil more power? becuz im planning buying parts that are high

Nonya Bussiness says:

the wheel of fortune buzzer at the end is priceless. ehhhh.. correct. tell
him what he’s won. thanks for the vid

skirkland1980 says:

Thanks. I made this video because a lot of people were asking me how to do
it. It’s so much easier to just show them the video.

My 95 Chevy K1500 is a bit different under the hood but I’m doing mine
while its in the truck.

skirkland1980 says:

I apologize for the lighting

hsvbrolsma says:

@ESTEZZZZ I have an 83 silverado, that shifts at 3500 at WOT when it’s in
drive, but I can shift it at redline when I shift the gears on the column
manually. Give it a shot?

bigggs1231 says:

That was the best demonstration that i ahve seen. Thanks.

kurohyou07 says:

A good video for the most part.. but if you left the trouble light on…
we’d see better what you were doing. When you DID turn the light on… I
was thinking “FINALLY, we can see what you were up to… but your routinely
shut it off, again leaving us in the dark. Maybe try another video with
that trouble light on all the time. Ric.

skrony627 says:

question i have a 1993 caprice with a 5.0,do u think i have to pull my
engine out to change distributor?and intake manifold

skirkland1980 says:

@Tylek101 remove all your spark plugs and run a compression test on all the
cylinders. give the plugs a good inspection while they are out.

libertyn jeopardy says:

Just installed an HEI on my 85 K5 Blazer and it went exactly as you said,
results were perfect. Removing the stock GM distributor and ditching the
ECM has made the engine perform like never before, Thanks so much.
