Sorry that's not a lap welding that is a plug weld…. the panels are overlapped however.
Yup, and this video is handy because that's where most cars rust out and get holes. I have done several of the same repairs and was just as happy with the outcome.

I did a lap weld on an F150 about 30 years ago, then I under sealed the patch and it's still good to this day.
