I’m looking at a 2000 F150 which doesn’t have a converter. Apparently in
Florida, where the truck is from, there are no emissions test. I thought
catalytic converters were required standard on all vehicles since long
before 2000. If so, they must have intentionally removed it. Now it makes
me wonder what other “modifications” may have been done. Otherwise it seems
like a good truck.

Melvin Alfaro says:

Hey thanks Scotty for your wisdom bro. I have a question for ya, I have a
1999 ford f159 thats making a leaking sound by the exhaust pipe, when i
accelerate it goes laudder. I saw your video about the catalytic converter
replacement, and thanks for that bro, by the way the video its great bro! I
see you mention “not to forget about the gasket”. That got me thinking…
So i went and check the joint, and the noise come out of the left side by
the top joint… So my question is that if it is possible that the gasket
is the one that needs to be replace? And where could i get it? I’ve checked
in the majority of auto parts and they say that they don’t have it? Do you
think that could be the issue?

cisneros diaz says:

hi Scotty do the catalytic converter pop the check light engine and provoke
the engine temperature goes up

Nyny42@live.com K4r4t3 says:

Another great video

Damon Paxson says:

1998 f150xl 6 cyl.. muffler rattles at low rpm’s and muffler shop said it
will cost $1,100 to replace both left and right converters, and they will
“repack” the aftermarket muffler. If I replace the left and right
converters, is there a way for me to get the particles out of the muffler
to stop the rattle?

Harold Cartagena says:

Hey sir how u doing do u have any video abou how to install a catalytic
coverter in a Cobalt 2005 2.2

I just purchased a converter for a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, it looks
like the back end just ends and needs to be welded, Is there a way around
this?

David Andrews says:

Hi Scotty Kilmer, I have a 2000 Ford Expedition and it has four catalytic
converters. I believe the catalytic converter on the driver’s side is bad.
Would I be able to use a gallon of Lacquer thinner to half a tank of gas or
should I try a different ratio for cleaning the converter? Do you have any
other suggestions?

Joy Smith says:

Just saw your video and it looks pretty easy to change it out. My question
to you is on a 1997 Ford Expedition 4×4 my front driver cat is rattling and
tapping. Can we just cut that cat off and put in a cheater pipe and clamp
them.on or should I go to a muffler shop and let them put it on? I just
changed all plugs, wires and coil packs and the light is off, and the
misfired are gone. I drove it yesterday and it runs great.

Jim J says:

so if have vehicle last then 70000 mils i can get free replacement for my
catalytic converter?

Jason A. Rodriguez says:

Just wanna give a shout out! Great videos, I’ve watched a few and they’re
excellent. Keep up the good work man…

7StringBlazer says:

So where does the vast expenses for something so simple come from? At a
local Midas, I was quoted for around $700-800 for a new cat installation,
but cats themselves with the assembly for my car are, at most, $135-200.

If there’s no real reason for why it’s so expensive, at this rate I could
do this myself and save a ton. I know that’s the case with most vehicle
maintenance things; I’m handy with cars, just slightly unmotivated because
I dislike the car.

Oldbmwr100rs says:

Don’t forget some anti-seize on the bolt and O2 sensor threads to make
putting it together a little easier, and especially to make getting the O2s
off again if You need to.

Marcos Villatoro says:

Scotty! You’re a terrific teacher! Thanks, Marcos

Hey scotty, I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler that needs a new catalytic
converter that I am trying to replace myself. Having some trouble finding
parts that can be shipped to California, any insight? Also, I am brand new
to doing my own engine work, would you say replacing the CC is too
difficult for a rookie? Any insight or tips for replacing the CC would be
useful, Thanks!

Hey scott I drive a 2010 toyota camry 4 cylinder and when I press the gas
hard it smells like phosphur through the vents why is that what should I do

prank diver says:

How many jumps do you have?

dany ordonez says:

Hi Scotty I have a question I need to replace my catalytic but the original
are expensive I looked in rock auto parts and some are less expensive some
49 state legal and some 50 state legal I don’t know what that means I was
told that after market are not good what do you recommend. It’s for a 2002
camry with 300,000 miles

iman says:

How long do aftermarket converters last as compared to the OE?

Charles Faust says:

Thanks Scotty, hope this applies to my 2009 Ram :)

kayou5082 says:

Wow that was quick ! Meanwhile at the shop they claimed it was a three hour
job ! Thanks for the insight Scotty !

Finn Blu says:

Isn’t that a camry????

G11B says:

Somewhat irrelevant question… Anyone know what his MOS was when he was in
the 101? Must’ve been a mechanic MOS.

Lerone Walters says:

Hey Scotty. I have a 2002 8cy ford explorer. I just went to midas and the
told me since I need a new cat the I can only buy the part from the Ford
dealer and thats about $2000. Is this true or is there a aftermarket part i
can get cheaper to resolve this problem?

Sarasota Guitar Lessons says:

Scotty, I just came across you and this video. Great job, I have a 2006
Toyota Camry. And the only reading I get is Catalytic Converter (Bank 1)
Below performance…. Only problem is I think I have two Cats. One in the
Exhaust Manifold that is right in front of the engine, and the other by the
muffler… which one is failing? I am new to this and want to try doing it
myself. Thanks for your reply and keep up the great work.

Terry1212 says:

Scotty, which brand of cats do you recommend, Bosal or Walker? The Bosal
assembly for my car is $269 and the Walker is $315. Would it be considered
“going cheap” if I were to buy the Bosal? I want a good catalytic
converter. Thanks.

fisher white says:

have to replace whole mr kilmer? cant just

Taylor Waid says:

We are getting our 1998 chevy prizm back and our cat converter at idle
isn’t leaking but when we accelerate it leaks pretty bad what else do you
think it could be.

fisher white says:

depends on the car and the year and the model. But on most later model
cars, aftermarket cats often won’t synch with the computer software and the
light comes on warning the cat is bad. is that mean light wont
comes on with after market cats?

GANTZ100pts says:

Wow fixing a cat looks a lot easier then I thought it would be, if I even
need one done (or my dad) I can help him out or do ti myself.

123chavezcris says:

On that car (4runner ). How do you know which catalytic converter you need
to change?? Since it has 2, rear and front.. Thanks

jorge242 says:

Thanks for this video but I’m wondering if it’s easier and cheaper to pay a
shop to weld on the new converter since the whole assembly will be more
expensive. Any thoughts?

Dewin Hernandez says:

Hi Scotty, I recently got quoted $1600!! to replace my Catalytic converter
on my 2008 Honda CRV EX-L. They said its clogged and no exhaust is pulling
through which is why I’ve been having difficulties accelerating. Would
cleaning be sufficient or would an aftermarket converter work fine

Bryan Moran says:

I’m knew to this game but if I have a dent in my converter would you
recommend a new one ? And is replacing the converter different on E36
models ?

Gary Wanetoziak says:

Good video. Thanks

chris ranaudo says:

there is no connections on my systtem everything is weided

Jacob SMITH says:

Hey scotty my car needs a new cat and since a oem is gonna cost almost half
what I paid for the car and its not worth it since my car doesn’t seem like
it will make it 5 years should I use aftermarket. Mechanic tell me they
overheat but they are a lot cheaper and the brand is pretty good. Pleas let
me know I’ve been driving around like this for a few weeks and probably
ruining my vehicle.

Demitrius Castillo says:

Scotty ur amazing im fixing up my first car and its rare to find someone
thts actually helpful ur awesome im a fan now:)

Richard Hecht says:

Why does a certified CA legal catalytic converter for a 2006 Pontiac G6 V6
cost over $700 from GM dealers in CA? Don’t they make millions of them for
CA? And why aren’t after-market cats available for this car and 2007
Hyundai 1.6 engine

Quang Pham says:

On an ’00 Infiniti i30t, the code p0430 is showing. Is that the O2 sensor
or does the cat need to be cleaned/replaced? Thanks in advance Scotty!
(BTW, I’d never own a M-Benz 🙂 )
