anytime those engines throw correlation codes its always going to need a new timing set.
Great information thanks
Still do at least one of these jobs a month. Soooooooo many piston jobs on these 2.4’s also.
Just changed the exhaust camshaft sensor (did intake a month ago, then found out there was a second) and now getting P0017.
Guess I’m checking the solenoids for metal next.
That sucks about your masking tape. I can empathize. Good video/advice. Thanks.
I would imagine the engine will have a short life due the metal all throughout the galleys. Run it I guess for now.
What vacuum port did you use for the vac test?
When these codes sets it is ALWAYS a stretched primary chain. I do 2- 3 of them a week. On a lift you can do it in a couple hours if youve done them before.
You didnt fix anything
I have this problem with 2010 peugeot 308 1.6 turbo petrol, p0016, is this same problem like with Chevrolet?
So your chain skipped but didn't damage internals ?
Do you recommend replacing phasers when doing chains?
I’m having the same problem. Have 2013 Chevy Malibu eco. P0014 code came up. Changed both parts. There is a ticking noise still when in idle. Could this be the chain? Can this be repaired? 94,000 miles. Thanks
I have the same codes for both solenoids and car goes into limp mode and my timing chain is def loose. Do u think my valves would be bent?
So the plastic nylon guide was never installed at the factory? Friggin GM.
My 2012 equinox 2.4 has code p0014. Replaced the actuators or seliniods. Code came back on. I did change my oil at same time only 2.5 quarts came out! I check my oil oil all the time never thought it was low. Whats my next step?
Question do you have to replace the cam phasers as well ? Or can you reused them ?
i HAVE DONE 3 OF THESE GM 2.4L TIMING CHAINS RECENTLY. 2 OF THEM THE TOP GUIDE WAS NOT ONLY MISSING THE NYLON PART BUT THE METAL TOP PART OF THE METAL BRACKET THE NYLON ATTACHES TO WAS ALSO MISSING. AND THE CHAIN ACTUALLY WORE A HOLE IN THE VALVE COVER ON ONE OF THEM. THE THIRD ONE, THE WHOLE GUIDE, INCLUDING THE BRACKET WAS MISSING INCLUDING THE SCREWS THAT HOLD IT ONTO THE HEAD. ANOTHER THING I FOUND IN COMMON ON ALL 3 OF THE ENGINES I DID WAS THE FRONT (INTAKE SIDE) GUIDE WAS BROKEN, ALLOWING SLACK IN THE CHAIN.
So I did a whole new timing change on my 2010 traverse and got new crankshaft sensors but it continues to throw the crankshaft sensors sensor 1 bank b code and I don’t know why
My car is same car malibu but it runs great but I think I have same issue tho I found metal on solenoids and same code nothing fixes it so I'm going to order a timing chain kit, what all did u need to fix it. Thanks for helping me
What is the travel on the solenoid supposed to be, MIne test ok but it only moves about 1/4 inch, seems like it should move a whole chamber length?
