The stepper motors are the problem. I just replaced all 6 motors in my
wifes 04 Tahoe. The parts were $19.00 on ebay. If you know how to desolder
and solder its an easy fix. The new updated stepper motors are guaranteed
for life. As far as the mileage, if you remove your gauge cluster and drive
the vehicle the computer stores the mileage and when you install the
cluster it will automatically update the mileage to the correct miles.

My 2005 Suburban Z71 speedometer just pegged itself at over 120mph. It has
78,000 miles so I thought it was covered under the TSB, but I missed the
time limit by about 1 year. The dealer actually got me a remanufactured
cluster for free, but I have to pay $160 for labor. I want to install it
myself, but he wouldn’t go for that. At least it’s less than the $600
originally quoted. Many online companies now refurbish these pretty cheap.
My trucks been perfect other than this and the airbag lt

hunterd78 says:

if it requires programming….it almost certainly would need the mileage
and engine hours programmed in somehow.

rldel149 says:

Slight correction… Larry sounds a little like me I think.

matt9c1 says:

Hrm. My 05 Silverado has been flawless. It’s just odd that you express so
much hate for it, yet you keep it. Is Ford perfect then ? I had a few Fords
and….I don’t anymore. I worked for two employers who had Ford fleet
vehicles and my current employer who uses Chevy fleet vehicles. The Chevy’s
have been better ROI.

rldel149 says:

Oh yes, my service air bag on the cluser came on about 3 years ago, best of
luck to you on yours but I believe my truck was built broken.

Schpankme Verimuch says:

IT’s crap products; we had the same thing go out on a new 1995 Chrysler
Town & Country Van. These days, I only buy used and only diesel. The older
the better.

We often forget, since everything is made in China nowadays, that Made in
the USA ain’t about quality … well it’s not the first thing that comes to
mind. I had a garage light socket that broke … I was certain it was made
in China but when I took it off, it said “Made in the USA” … I replaced
it with a “Made in China” socket, as they are all made there nowadays, and
it works. All I’m saying is Made in the USA never was that great to begin
with, especially if you remember their cars.

I HAVE AN 03 SUBURBAN. I HAD TO FIX MY DASH TOO. IT COST $120 TO REPAIR AND
CHANGE THE BULBS. I HAVE OWNED BMW’S, MERCEDES, VOLVO, JAGUARS, TOYOTA AND
FORD. IF YOU THINK ITS EXPENSIVE TO HAVE A CHEVY…BUY EUROPEAN OR
JAPANESE. I HAVE GONE AROUND THE WORLD, BACK WITH THE GOLD BOWTIE. GM DID
HAVE TROUBLE, BUT IT WAS WITH THE UNIONS. THEY TOOK GOOD CARE OF THEIR
EMPLOYEES, AND IT COST THEM. NOW GM IS BACK ON TRACK AND NO. 1 IN THE
WORLD. GOOD LUCK…..

rldel149 says:

@cl6406 – yea, the truck is a POS. Now, the air bag is in alarm and on the
last trip to Georgia it got 13.64mpg.

crystarrrr says:

Where did u get replacement part from? Mines bad n yep wouldn’t warranty it
i was under miles n over years by two months n they wouldn’t budge i was
like fu.

rldel149 says:

If they are so good, why did we, the good old American Taxpayer have
billions Robb from us to bail GM’s sorry, mismanaged, poorly designed and
shottily built arses out like Chrysler? Have yet to need to w/Ford or
Toyota. And with huge government checkschecks rolling out w/each Chevy
Volt… great future. innovation I’m proud of.

cl6406 says:

awesome song at the end!! I agree about not buying GM for that reason, that
and I used to sell them. the warranty is very specific about certain
things! GO RAM!!

rldel149 says:

Because 2 kids screwin’ around in their daddy’s SUV hit my paid-off ’94 GMC
and I don’t yet have a paid-off F150 or Tundra – this truck was built
broken and GM should have gone bankrupt.

rldel149 says:

The dealer does that. Read them before they order it from GM.

jwmckin08 says:

Does any body else think this dude’s voice sounds like Larry the Cable Guy?

matt9c1 says:

If you hate your Chevy so much…why do you own it ?

ca9th says:

Thanks for this

dhelie brown says:

My 03 avalanche cluster finaly went out and its not covered under the
recall. when i get a new cluster panel I’m gonna use this video.

godlessdustin says:

Great video, thanks.

FoxyWolfProductionz says:

I was actually about to ask you about the mileage programming. A buddy of
mine has a 2004 with this issue. My 94 oOds has the old mechanical mileage
counter. Any idea what would need to be done to correct mileage on a new
cluster if it should ever need to be addressed?
