It’s all about trial and error. Start with a small bit and work out as you get comfortable. Custom work is all about your finesse as you go. You lean fast it’s ok. Keep going

Just a small suggestion for the rounded ends you might use a rounded object like a fire extinguisher tank just make sure the tank is empty and that it's metal. or you might try a tree stump a hammer and ratchet strap hope it helps

The great part about working with metal is if you do it wrong you can weld it back together and do it right.

You got it looking good the cancer of rust you took out. Instead of putting bondo or other type plastic body fillers may I suggest a product called all-metal it is put out by us metal and plastic it's a aluminum body filler
