nice video helped out a lot but y would gm have bolts that go into the
water jacket of the engine
lol this is much easier on the 04 pontiacs the power steering dosent hide a
bolt on newer models
Sometimes you may have to wiggle the pump a little bit so you can get the
bolts started. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
How do you “get steering pump up in place” (~10:26)? I had a devil of a
time. Finally held pump w/left hand while that index finger touching bolt
hole area used guide bolt to hole. If bolts weren’t sweet, alignment could
have been near impossible. What’s the good trick to get it seated and bolts
aligned and started?
this is so cool seeing a car just like mine being worked on..thank you for
sharing
Thanx for the video. really appreciate it. I just replaced the water pump
on my Chevy Monte Carlo 02′ today and your video was very helpful. Thanx
again
What happens if I don’t have sealant?
Is this the same as replacing the steering pump as well? I have like a
winding noise whenever I turn the wheel I hear or either accelerate I hear
it
It will probably take you a couple of hours to do the job. We carry the
replacement water pumps on our website 1aauto.com
You may have to take them all the way out.
You may want to may sure that it’s the correct pump, on some vehicles the
flow may go in a different direction between years. Also check (when the
vehicles cold) that the radiator is full inside and that all of the air
pockets are out of the system.
ok, so it was the elbows after having someone looking at it… I was hoping
you would have had the answer to that seeing as though you already have a
video on changing the elbows. So that was $230 down the drain including the
tow fare. Now I just need to replace the tensioner pulley. Watching that
vid next… Thanls for your expertise, truely a big help! Do you have any
vids on A/C issues for these models?
great video!
good idea with the belt wrench to hold the pulley. i always just use 2
wrenchs or use a small pry bar against the bolts. but i’m think now i’m
going to try and find one of those, would make the job easier, although
thats only a minor thing i guess.
@kenman1717 why not just use an old serpentine belt. Seems like it would do
the job.
Instead of using a chain wrench, you can leave the belt on until you break
the bolts holding the pulley free. This will also allow you to remove the
belt without struggling with the tensioner. However, you still need to use
the tensioner to get the belt back on.
It’s anti-freeze.
The 3.4 is similar but the bolts used and the location might be slightly
different location because the parts are different.
Is this same procedure as impala 2001 3.4
We currently do not have an repair video for that particular motor. We’ll
keep this in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the
future.
Thanks for the help. Was having trouble with the power steering pulley. The
rest was a breeze.
Unfortunately we do not have any videos on A/C issues at this time.
@trod2011 Thank you for checking out our auto repair channel.
Couldn’t get to that bolt by the power steering pulley.. But now I know to
take off the P/S Pump! Thank you very much! Your vids have easily saved me
close to $1000.. Amazing vids!
1aauto, the bolts on the power steering pump, in stead of backing them out
a little ways, did you took them all the way out?
THANKS FOR THE HELP! YOU JUST SAVED ME SOME MONEY TODAY.
@spelunkerd It more than likely leaked because of the old gasket. Once you
install the new gasket onto the water pump and tighten all of the bolts,
that’s all that should be needed to prevent anything from leaking.
If you take the belt off of it, try to turn it by hand. If it doesn’t move
freely, it more then likely is bad. We carry new water pumps on our website
for your 00-05 Chevy Impala. Here’s a link to them on our site.
