Chevy Truck EVAP Leak: Follow Up

Chevy Truck EVAP Leak: Follow Up

In a previous video https://youtu.be/1fMd0zUejL0 I showed a Chevy truck with an EVAP leak and we could hear it leaking form the top of the tank. I told you it was because the plastic fuel sending unit cracks under the stress of the rusted lock ring. Now it is time to show you what I mean.

With all the late model Chevy truck videos, the SMA channel, is an ad for Ford trucks.

mark Roper says:

I don't think there is anyone watching this that would have a problem with you fixing their vehicle!!! You are like a large ball peen hammer surgeon! Have a great week!!

Scott L says:

Same problem with my 2014 Mazda 6, BUT unfortunately Mazda chose to use screws to secure the flange ring. They were so corroded even using a screw extractor kit I could not remove them all. They simply disintegrated. Gas was leaking out around the ring and onto the ground occasionally. To fix it I'd have to buy a new tank. Currently it's covered in epoxy and appears to be holding up–'til hopefully I can buy a new car this year.

tom TKE says:

wow… you east coast guys get short changed on cars because of rust. My Denver based '90 Lesabre with 370,000 miles is still going strong.

Highteckhobbies says:

next time spray some fluid film around the flange

Michael Roberts says:

Eric O. have you ever talked about your experience that caused you to say. "If I can do it, you can do it?"

Rick Simon says:

Moms car had a fuel leak. Too cold out for me to mess with it. I did look underneath and everything looks brand new. No rust on fuel lines fuel tank to motor, and brake lines all still have black paint on them all the way around. So i assume a small section near the front sway bar needs a nylon line patched in or something small. So i drop it off to a local shop that i have never been to before. Decent google reviews. I explained it should be a very small fix, not too expensive. Shop owner agreed. Guess what, it was the quick connector where the steel line to rubber line near the engine side was, near the sway bar. $8 part. Charged me $150. Thats the problem with many mechanics. Rip off. If it was warmer and not a foot of snow on the ground, i could have done it in 20 minutes. I would not even drop a car off there again to have the windshield squeegeed. Lost a return customer.

Fireside Coffee says:

Eric, are you going to get SMA hats in your store? I need some swag for my bald head.

A Smithh says:

what happened to the Fluid Film on the underside of the Lock ring before installing?

Jim Getz says:

Dr.O. still Amazing. Thank ypu Sir. I know of a 2004 Passat 1.8 turbo V.W. that I wish that ypu could fix. Great driving as well a great solid ride. But it is rough at where it idles. And the money lights on

Oyster toad says:

I’m sorry didn’t mean to sound rude granny just crapped herself when the compressor came on beside us .
