Kevin Callahan says:

when I was 17 (1973) I hit a Corvair while driving a Mustang, there was a small scratch on my mustang and the Corvair was totaled.

Don T says:

My Dad had a great Corvair Corso Spyder Convertible which I got to drive. It never had many problems that I can remember. However I had one the infamous Ford Pintos that were famous for bursting into flames when rear ended. The Jeep CJ7's were one of the worst handling vehicles on & off the road and killed and injured quite a few people. The Ford Bronco which was a copy of the Jeep were also deadly. My almost got killed when his rolled over. Corvairs got a bad rap.

Tom in Toledo says:

I had a Corvair and had no such problems, look how many new cars are rolling over, I see then on the road everywhere rolled over, WHY???

VICTORIA ROMERO says:

Are you the long lost son of John Lennon?

P J says:

Awesome video! Thank you so much Scotty! I had a 65 Corvair Monza 110 Hp convertible in 1975 and it was the most fun in the high school parking lot doing donuts in the snow. The powerglide transmission had a T handle control on the dash. I had some of the best times with that little Corvair. I’m 65 now And I know I would still enjoy driving one of these Corvair’s today.

Greg Daugherty says:

Back in early 80s had two first generation Corsair’s and a 65 corsa stock turbo convertible. Only problem I ever had with any of these cars were vapor locking probably due to living in southern Nevada heat. An easy fix with an inline electric fuel pump that was switched controllable to use as needed.

Gary H says:

I had an old '63 Corvair that I bought in the late 80s. That thing rode like a Cadillac.

Monte Garrison says:

We would use that technologies and engines in our beach buggies in CA, on the central coast

Lee Kumiega says:

I like the story of how the 966 Chevrolet Yenko Stinger was America’s Answer To The Porsche 911. Don Yenko increased the horsepower from 140 to 240 ,this and other modifications made the car quicker than a 911. It would go on to have many SCCA wins.

Jim M says:

Everytime I saw a Corvair, It looked very ugly and backwards designed to me. Seems it was since front engine front wheels design now rules the day and air cooled is out.

62hotrodvair says:

shame on you scotty, i have driven corvairs for years and never wrecked one or flipped one over . i drove a 61 coupe 4 speed corvair to work everyday in bumper to bumper traffic sometimes in california (when it was more sane ) , i drove my 62 corvair all the way from california to the middle of the united states and no wrecks no flip overs . one time ralph nader i think actually went to a corvair ? convention and he said said for those who drove corvairs and never had any wrecks that makes you the worlds safest drivers . many things can be done even on the older cars making them safer . i run size 60 and 70 wider tires with custom rims . the cars i mentioned driving to work had thinner tires and no wrecks the second generation of cars were made more safer . the corvairs will be around a lot longer then nader lol. check out the corvair society of america and clarks corvairs for reproduction parts .

David Botwinik says:

Owned both a 64 and 66 Corvair. Both were brilliant and handled well, particularly the 66 Monza. Would love to own one now. Was a lot of fun to drive!

mark price says:

My sisters husband had a Corvair that he thought could go anywhere in the snow since the weight of the engine was in the back. He was showing off driving on snow and slid right off into a ditch. The vapors of the engine would fill the car so bad you had to roll down the windows. Not a collector car.

Hydroman Adams says:

Scotty, I thought it was because of a fire hazard, they leaked oil into the cooling shroud, build up oil, and not running the engine in a lower gear in town to help keep it cool. I never owned one, my best friend had one of the first ones, we were in high school, we noticed the front end would lift easy, but we had a road we lived on in Alabama, twisting and up and down, but that Corvair would take everything, never even attempting to roll over, my Aunt Oner, she was 75 years old bought the Monza with the turbo, she drove it like a race car, she traded in her Nash Metropolitan Convertable for the Corvair, My wifes best frend had a Corvair, they would ride, everywhere…. until it caught on fire, inside the fan shroud and compleatly burned up quickly.

JerryLee Lacseul says:

Should the auto makers make a cross over transport vehicle that uses a smaller less polluting motor tp charge a bank of battery’s ???

Tommy Bounds says:

Thank you for the video

Bert says:

I have driven Corvair (my dad had one 64) when I was a kid (hot wire it). They where great handling cars especially on the winding roads up in the hills of Oakland, or Highway 1…
I loved them just like the bug.
Especially the van and trucks where really kool.
Especially engine (air cooled) in the rear kicks the rear out great for sliding sideways around corners, it's a lot of fun. Bugs can do it if you pump the engine like the Porsche.
Tire pressure was very important with all that weight behind the rear axle including trikes.
It's amazing that people assumed that the tire pressure on the tires is correct and not by vehicle specs.
But I drive crazy around corners so I always adjust my tire pressures for best handling…
