In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a customers Chevy equinox with the classic P0010 Intake cam position solenoid control circuit. It is a very common issue on the GM 2.4’s

Sheeesh…that 2.4 sounds like 260,000 miles!
Our Equinox was a victim of the old PCV freeze up. Prior to her demise, it was actually 121,000 miles of trouble free driving. Only routine items and the above repair. Some of them had issues with the high pressure fuel pump as well but ours didn't. Love the channel!
I have a 2008 equinox that has lost communication to ECM. Help!
Interesting. I have a 2013 Equinox with the 2.4 L and literally haven’t had a single issue with the engine. Bought it with 60k a couple years back and I’m at 155k now. I do check the oil religiously and during the winter I make sure to drain the PVC lake regularly.
Leaving a comment to help you pay for new shoes for Trinity's horse.
What type of scanner do you use? That thing looks awesome.
Hose pliers like the one you used to pull the solenoid off. Bought a set of three with different sizes. One of my favorite tools now.
0:21 – CHEVY THUNDER!
Believe it or not I got 204k out of my 2013 2.4 AWD then the motor went used a quart of oil ever 1000 miles didn't leak any but sure ued it. We also change the oil every 3000 miles too. I believe that's what help alot. But yes crap engines
How weird is this? p0013 a few minutes ago. 2011 Equinox LT 2.4L FWD. Now I know exactly what to do! Thanks Mr. O! Now let's test if I can really do it! Stay safe up there in the PRNY! HA Ha ha!
If she is not leaking she is empty.
What Trent said.
Tell me about that "T" handle 1/4 drive we have seen you use a number of times. Looks like a nice drive unit. Who makes it and where did you get it? Thanks for your videos!
Thanks for the video Eric! Hope and the family had a great Christmas & New Year! What was the link to that other guys channel that worked on the same issue but was a little different?
Great video! I appreciate the explanation of how the logic works on these cars
Cam solenoid valves are very common on those. Most of them fail due to low oil level caused by excessive consumption from stuck piston rings. Low oil level usually causes damage to the timing chain guides as well. If you remove the solenoid valve, check the screens for debris. My advice to my customers with this engine is to check the oil regularly and change it more frequently than what the oil life monitor calculates. A word of advice, if you cold start this engine and you hear a rattle for a few seconds, the oil level is most likely low. The noise comes from the cam actuators having to prime up with oil. I have 135k miles on mine and I change the oil every 2,500 – 3,000 miles, and that's after I've replaced the pistons. At that interval, I expect the oil to be about 1 quart low. GM spec for expected oil consumption is about 1 quart for every 2,000 miles, and that's for all of their vehicles.
<I replace them before easy fix.
Good job but how about the leaves on the intake…..
Chevy Equinox= Junk
Thanks for always giving the shoutouts to other channels. Classy and respectful.
Ya but how many Equinoxes are you going to find on 2011 and newer with a v6 most came with the 4 cylinder which are junk, good luck finding 1 with the v6,how about not getting something that doesn't have all these problems, like Honda,Toyota.
I wish you stop badmouthing all aftermarket parts. There are other brands that are just as good or better than oem. I make my living selling aftermarket parts and they are not bad parts at all.
I bought a 2012 GMC Terrain with those issues after 80k. I installed a oil caught can, and no more freezing pvc valve or real loss of oil. At every 3,000 mile oil change, I only loss 1/2 a quart of oil. Would suggest this method to not blow rear main seal. 160,000 miles later still runs like a champ. Only replace those 2 sensors once
Years ago I made a decision to always go to NAPA for my car parts because
of the low-cost poor quality parts from the other parts stores.
Interference timing belt motor?
