Chevrolet Volt (2015) – New 12-Volt Battery Install

Learn how to install a new 12-volt battery in a Chevrolet Volt. We’ll show you how to replace/change/remove with simple tips and tricks to help get you started!

Tool List: 10mm wrench, 13mm wrench, flathead screwdriver

Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures for installing a new 12-volt battery in this 2013 Chevrolet Volt, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture’s step by step instructions found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on because some year/model procedures may be different than the vehicle in this video.

Even if your vehicle did not come with an AGM battery, you can upgrade to an AGM battery for up to 2x the life. AGM can be found at most retail outlets. You can learn more about AGM here: https://www.autobatteries.com/en-us/battery-technology-types/absorbent-glass-mat-agm-battery

The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the memory alive on the vehicle’s computer during the battery replacement procedure. Referring to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer’s requirements. https://youtu.be/vSP3ShcaFgQ

Some late model vehicles must have the 12 volt battery registered with the vehicle’s Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. See these videos on Battery registration and coding for more details on the procedures at https://youtu.be/TGKohKZHzr0 & https://youtu.be/cxOK_DczRGg

Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.

Great video, saved me from having my Volt FlatBed towed to the dealer, and who know how much they would have soaked me. Batteries have really gone up in price, I found out. $300 for the 12V battery. Wow. I made my own "memory saver" from left over powersupply for a computer modem. Seems to have worked because the car is same as before the battery went bad. There was no warning the battery was ready to do. Yesterday, it was fine, today – dead. Thanks for the video.

Good video. Music not so much. The clicking of a ratchet sounds infinitely better.

I gave a jump from the engine compartment on my Volt 2017, it did not work and the post now has 0 volts reading, where is the fuse I blew located ? Thanks

Can I change the battery while running, or will it still erase some memory

Dave Riley says:

Excellent video from start to finish. Much appreciated. I have had 3 Volts myself and found 4 more for friends and relatives. Today is the first day I have needed to replace one of the 12V batteries.

What happens if we don’t have a memory saver? The savings will be reset?
