Roland Caston says:

other issues with the car, I believe it suffers from a faulty coolant
sensor.

Roland Caston says:

they are called stepper motors try this item number in ebay search
250960640928. you can also search google for “GM Stepper motors ebay” Easy
to find, cheap to buy, tricky to replace.

Roland Caston says:

Sorry for the delay. No need to get flashed, or reprogrammed.

DIEGO BANDIDO says:

been searching at ebay coud’nt find it though … what do you call tha
motor sir? tanx

iedhunter05 says:

Whats up with the engine light on and the other lights on the cluster when
you went for a test drive?

Ron Lindquist says:

There was a recall in several GM cars that use these panels but Trailblazer
wasn’t among them but the part is the same. Go figure – maybe you can get
GM to pony up for the repair but my dealer wanted $550 so I bought the
parts for $40 and replaced all the stepper motors.

Roland Caston says:

They are attached to the stepper motor but soldered to the board.

Jimmy Hinton says:

Where did you get the motors from?

Roland Caston says:

a soldering tool…not a welder at all. I use good quality flux core solder.

TinyandReba says:

Nice Job mister! God knows I don’t have the money for GMC Dealer.

John Coley says:

where do you get the motors

AutoXpressTech1 says:

@rcaston19 $7 times 6 or 7 motors plus shipping? Have it done right with a
warranty for $99. We’ll replace any bad lights and fix other known issues
with this cluster. It will never fail again. autoxpresstech

Gary Howard says:

I sent mine to the guys at gm cluster fix on facebook for $75 and lifetime
warranty…. my mph are exactly the same as my gps….

Lynn Grantham says:

Yours is one the best cluster repair guides I’ve watched. I replaced a dead
fuel gauge stepper motor but the new one acts sort of random. I don’t I
have bad sender but perhaps I did poor soldering job. Do you know how to
recalibrate a GM fuel gauge stepper motor?

Roland Caston says:

nope, the dealer can’t adjust it.

mdotman11 says:

Great video. A few questions for you…I had a bulb burn out for the fuel
gauge. I couldn’t tell from the video but is the bulb part of the stepper
motor assembly? Also, I noticed when you were removing the tape that some
of the gauges moved after you had set them. Does that mess up the
calibration of where you had aligned them on the tape marks?

Hajazi Aseil says:

Thank you; It’s excellant. You are very nice and helpful man. Regards. Bye.

blessed777favored says:

No matter how much time you take it off will that mess up the steeper motor
because I had to by some more because after I did that the first couple of
times I some were moving backwards. 🙁 I hate to give up because I got this
far to have to spend a 120 to get it rebuilt. I feel if I wasn’t going it
right the one that was not working wouldn’t have started working I just
can’t figure what I doing wrong I re solder it to make sure I had the right
connect not they won’t go down when car is off.

Roland Caston says:

@Orbitman901 EXCELLENT!

Roland Caston says:

This has nothing to do with the odometer.

Roland Caston says:

same procedure for most all GM cars of this era.

Roland Caston says:

They are part of the stepper motor but soldered to the board. They get bent
over during oem assembly

Roland Caston says:

Thanks. The bulbs are soldered to the circuit board just like the stepper
motors. I assume that with a bit of research the bulbs could be located and
purchased. The alibration could have been slightly altered but compared to
totally inoperative gauges the error is acceptable.

Jeffrich308 says:

Thanks for the Video! Just finished repairing the cluster in my wife’s
Trailblazer. Your video was a great help. I used an OBD2 computer and GPS
to check the calibration of all the gauges, and with a little tweaking, all
is great. Ignore toddis43’s comments. If he doesn’t like what he sees, or
doesn’t have constructive criticism, make his own video and go somewhere
else and keep his mouth shut. Thanks for your help!

Roland Caston says:

Got mine on Ebay

blessed777favored says:

Are the little pin that you were straightening attached to the board?
Because I didn’t see any attached to the stepper gauge.

blessed777favored says:

I even changed the light and solder them back on, and they are working what
am I doing wrong? Why is this getting so difficult? This there any way I
can get this fix, or I will probably have to send it off, but I fixed the
ones that wasn’t working. Do you have to put the needle back in the twelve
o’clock position.

Roland Caston says:

I got mine on ebay. cheap too. type GM X25168 Stepper Motors in the ebay
search box. I just found some for $7.00 each.

BigDaddy B says:

Mr. Caston you’re the best! The cheapest repair was $189 plus $300 core
deposit. My total cost was $30 for motors and $10 for a cheap solder iron
set. Amazing instruction! Thank you.

Roland Caston says:

What other issues?

mrdallasman999 says:

Had mine rebuilt for a little more than what the parts cost at
dallasclusterrepair . c o m, they had a one day turn a round with lifetime
warranty!!

Roland Caston says:

@dzinity28 happy for you and not too bad of a deal. It is a bother to do
all that soldering but….since the gauges have needles???? how do ou know
it’s “exactly”? Mine and probably yours too were not working so a little
bit of error is ,in my opinion, much better than not working at all. You
think?

Roland Caston says:

It works now. Everyone in my household is happy and we saved a ton of
money. So what if it’s not “properly” calibrated? It’s bettter than not
working at all.

Roland Caston says:

I don’t know what you are doing wrong either. Possibly not a good solder
connection to the printed circuit? When you put the needle back on, move it
counter clockwise one complete circle to “0” or zero. This video is my
first attempt to do this repair. I have repaired a few others for friends
since then. None of them have experienced any problems. Keep at it. You
will eventually get it right.

blessed777favored says:

Well, I put them on solder them even changed the light now the ones that
were working is not and the ones that were not work are working now. I have
taken these things a lose so many times because you have to take the needle
off to get to the motor. I took the solder off and re did them over, and
the RPM is going in a complete circle and some or not going down when I
turn the vehicle off I cannot figure what I am doing wrong why some or
working and other are, I did the same thing to all of them.

Jimmy Hinton says:

Thanks man! You really help me out.

Angelica Martinez says:

Thanks. This helps. I’m sure I can do this myself…

Roland Caston says:

sorry for the delay in response. I would simply (with the key off) rotate
the needle a full counter clockwise turn back to E or empty or 0 (zero).

Ron Lindquist says:

I found that the stepper motors zero out when you first turn the key on so
I connected the panel after installing the motors but before installing the
needles. Temporarily connect the panel to the vehicle. Then turn the key on
(don’t start the engine) and let the motors “Zero” and install the needles
to zero on the printing and it worked beatifically, Then re-assemble the
whole thing. Speedometer track my GPS to within 1/2 MPH!

moktarhossam says:

Can I use any welder or there is a specific one for electronics… I really
don’t want to damage the circuit while doing the job

moktarhossam says:

Is this the same procedure for my GMC Envoy 2005??

toddis32 says:

what about the other issues with these clusters? there are several. i would
send it to a repair service.

vipersinu2 says:

if you want to get spedo dead on, use gps to get accurate speed and adjust
the needle that many mph.

toddis32 says:

wtf? doesn’t look like very good calibration of the gauges. the marks u put
on the tape were huge! your speedo is probly off 4 mph!

adoracion41 says:

Hi . I am interested in doing this repair to my 2005 Trailblazer. How can I
get the motors? I need to get the Speedometer, gas, volt, oil pressure
.only works tach and water temp. please let me know . thanks

vtskier777 says:

Thanks, great demo…I lost my speedo and fuel gauge on 04 Silverado

tepehuaje2000 says:

were can i buy the parts?
