This video will show you how to install a Pop & Lock kit on a 2017 Chevy Colorado. My truck is a Crew Cab, but this will also work on an extended cab. It will be similar on other GM pickup trucks as well. Check their website for part fitment.
This should fit a variety of late model GM trucks. The part number for this kit is PL8140.
Here is a link to the Pop N Lock website, with the instructions for this kit:

It does matter which wire you connect it to in cab. If you mix it up the lock button will unlock the tailgate instead of locking it.
I drive a 2016 Chevy Colorado and the wires I had to use were the thick gray wire and a thinner brown wire with yellow stripes
Just ordered this kit for our ZR2! Can't wait to use it. Its a pain having to lock and unlock tailgate all the time with the key. As cheap as it is GM should have it installed but oh well.
Just wired mine in on a 2018 Colorado Z71 Crew Cab. Blue wire goes to gray and Green goes to brown/yellow. That wires it correctly for lock/unlock.
Thanks bro my zr2 didn't come with this which is crazy but thanks I needed to be sure I was taking the right wires as we can't just test light these wires you need a computer safe signal tester apparently.
Where can I get the part at
Instructions unclear.Penis stuck in rear locking mechanism.
I cant believe how good this vid was made… How come other DIY guys cant be this clear and concise?
Nice job on the video. I had this video going while I added the Pop & Lock to my 2015 Canyon and it really helped get it done quickly. I did a couple of things differently. I used 1/2" split wire loom and a Dorman wire grommet in the hole I drilled in the plastic plug. I purchased both of these from Autozone. I also used a lot more zip ties than they provide in the kit.

I see you've had this installed for almost a year. Have you had any issues with it?
I just installed mine and it must matter what color wires are connected together. When I hit the lock it unlocks and the lock unlocks the tailgate. I will need to switch the wires around
Mine was not pushing the white plastic arm far enough to lock but unlock was working. I noticed the solenoid was attached to the bracket a little crooked. I loosened up the screws on the bracket, squared it up, and tightened it again. That took care of it. Thanks for this video. Very helpful!
Installed today it took about 2 hours works great, side note i could not find a brown and yellow like in the vid or tan and yellowlike manuel says, i found a more greyish and yellow wire and that was the one. Also installing the solenoid my arm that moves the white piece was was putting resistance on it when using the manuel key but i just removed and tweaked it with pliers, if not the key would not flipped lock all the way. Just a few tips
I'm assuming the wires you connected to are the door lock ones. And the tailgate will lock when you lock cab doors?
My 2016 Colorado does not have a tan wire with a yellow stripe. What do I do?
This video made installing a pop & lock on my 2017 Canyon a breeze,, THANKS A LOT
Hope you don't get a warranty issue because the warranty is not worth the paper it's written. I installed one in my GMC Canyon and the rod that activated the lock fell in the locked position after about 6 uses. My last 2 Emails to Pop and Lock didn t even deserve an answer I guess because I never got one.
Thank you! You made my pop n lock install happen.
Great video thank you so much!!!!
Thanks for the video. I installed a pop & lock in my colorado today and your video was a huge help!!
This was my first DIY mod that I attempted on my truck and it went great!
I wasn't quite sure how the scotch locks worked, but a quick Google search helped out. Basically you just wrap the scotch lock around the wire you want to tap into, insert the new wire into the only available hole left in the lock, and use pliers to close the cap, which pushes the metal piece into both wires, completing the connection. I did strip about 1/8" off of the new wires beforehand, dunno if it was necessary but it worked. Other than that, the hardest part of this install was just routing the wiring underneath the truck.
Please keep up with the awesome Colorado videos! Thanks for the help!!
