I watched this video and was able to replace the tailgate push button on my 2012 Chev Equinox LS 2.5L.
About a week ago, the button suddenly stopped working and I didn't know the problem. It ended up the original button stopped responding and had to be replaced.

Hello Jerry my 2012 Chev equinox back hatch started to act up a month or so ago .. I googled the problem and there you were telling me how to fix it. .. getting the blasted thing to open was the problem until today . I tried the hatch and it opened so I watched this video again and went out to the garage and in the 2nd snow so far this fall I went to work on it . I am a 64 yr old woman and I think I said words I'd have got a licken for as a kid. But despite the cold and the fact that a marker light got pulled out, wires got broke and everything… So I spliced wires and taped everything back together and put it all together and … it's fixed and I thank YOU !

My 2015 Equinox does not have a plug or hole in the trunk lift. There's nothing. How can I get the trunk open when there's no plug I can pull out and jimmy the closure with a screwdriver so I can work on it?

Alex says:

dated from October 6th 2022, made the switch with the handle release totally busted wire was broken (old) , the new one from GM has the small bump and it works, everything was there as described. Also note its a tight fit for the 10 mm bolts, so yes the right tools help. took me a couple hours based on novice experience but Hey ! Trunk opens now. Thank you !

Inez Medrano says:

Thank you, Jerry! Your video helped me a lot. I was able to save money and replace the switch with no issues. Thanks so much!

Thom Robitaille says:

You missed a couple important steps. Outside of that, everything went smoothly. I wouldn't even have gotten the door open without this video. 1) once the four 10mm nuts are removed from the back of the bezel, there are 2 white push pins still holding the bezel on. One is a pain to get to, the other is damn near impossible. It takes the right pliers (long needle nose) and a good deal of foul language to get it. 2) be very careful before you try to disconnect the switch from the wiring harness inside the bezel. Examine the new wiring plug on the switch carefully. You are going to think it's a two piece and should be pulled in half before plugging into the bezel. It's not. It's a one piece plug. It does not pull apart. Also, it will help immensely if you have a large pin or small awl to pry up on the lock tab after you've moved the red locking slide back toward the wires. Be gentle with this plug. Work slowly and think hard before you start reefing on anything. It all comes apart easily if done right.

I needed this video to see how the back bezel comes off of the door. I am losing paint and rusting at each corner. This allows me to treat and paint these spots. Thank you Jerry.

This is a really great video but I have one question????
If my switch is bad and I can't open my tailgate, how do I get the tailgate open to do what you did????

B P says:

Would love to convert it to manual. Really stupid that you can't open it when you disconnect your battery.

Thomas Fourounjian says:

Thanks Jerry. Your video was accurate to what had to be done. Thank you. My son and I did it in 30 minutes for $20.
