You are 100% right! I fortunately had these laying around so i didnt have to buy them..i miss the days of the inserts!
Old school technique would have been to just replace the insert, but few of us do that any more. It is a strange quirk of capitalism that encourages one to throw away the whole blade because aftermarket forces are more competitive when looking at whole blades. I think the real issue is the variance in sizes for inserts, compared to an almost universal standard for that proximal metal hook. Newer blade designs are streamlined so they don’t offer the option of replacing inserts.
