Ryan Schneider says:

Hey brain Awesome videos I have a 97 s10 ZR2 with the same cv setup except
i dont have the flange my cv axle slides into the axle housing so my
question is do i have to take out the axle housing to replace the seal or
can i just take out the axle and replace the seal and put the axle back
in???

Sunriseseller says:

I think your video got hit with a BFH starting at the five minute mark to
the end!!!

Goregoon says:

I had it in full screen, just went black… thought my machine took a dump
on me for a second. LoL I am embarrassed, I’m sitting here with an axle in
my hand and a dude looking at me wondering why he let me touch his Tahoe to
begin with. He asked me what was wrong and I had to fake a cramp (I didn’t
dare tell him I didn’t know what to do next) so we’ll just wait here
patiently for part 2 I guess… tap tap tap… is it there yet? tap tap
tap… LoL Good thing I’m charging hourly! ROFL

briansmobile1 says:

It’s lost and gone. The hard drive it was on is now toast.

spelunkerd says:

I hope you go through the effort of finishing this video. You’re a good
speaker and I have the same leaking seal on my truck. So, I’m waiting to
see the rest before I decide whether to tackle this one myself.

briansmobile1 says:

@epiphaknee I’ve got tons of shooting ones coming. I just got back from
Camp Williams CASL training.

memorycdrew says:

from the drivers side lower mount bolt. Use a block of wood and BFH, and
place the wood up against the inside of the axle flange and strike it with
the hammer. A couple good blows and they will pop out. I used an axle sear
puller tool, but you can probably just pull the seals out with your finger.
Just dont let any dirt get in the tube. Obviously you have to disconnect
the half shafts before dropping the diff down. Also disconnect the vent
hose on the drivers side. Oil will leak out

briansmobile1 says:

@mudtoys1 Next one I get in I’ll do it….. just haven’t had another yet.

briansmobile1 says:

@dabatman99 I recommend dropping the carrier and doing the whole rebuild.

mudtoys1 says:

dude ur like the only person who has made a video of this and the people
trying to tell u how to do it make it even harder to figure out so we are
gonna need you to finish or show us how to finish!!plz

Goregoon says:

@asayle3r5 LoL

epiphaknee says:

This is sort of a stupid question but I think the answer is very simple. On
the left hand side of the differential, if you are replacing the axle seal
how do you remove the stub shaft from the differential? Is it just “locked”
in with a c-clip and do you just tug on it and it pops out? Keep up the
Great videos Brian! I can’t wait to view more of the shooting and
motorcycle videos!!

briansmobile1 says:

@epiphaknee The left is held by a C-clip like a regular CV axle.

dabatman99 says:

Is it hard to change out the inner axle bearing while changing the seal? My
front diff is kinda groaning in 4wd, and the seal has been leaking and
there seems to be a bit of up and down play.

James Crowton says:

I have a 2006 Saturn ion and my axle seal is leaking and my question is
that, would I have to do the same thing to replace my axle seal also?
Thanks man

Shayne Friehauf says:

Hi Brian, I need to replace the left (driver’s side) front diff seal on my
97 K1500. ?s: 1) Do I need to remove the CV axle? Or can I leave it in and
just disconnect at the stub axle flange. It should compress toward the
wheel to give room to get the stub axle out? 2) Do I need to have 4×4
engage when pulling stub axle out? 3) It sounds like you can rock the stub
axle up/down and pull it out? 4) Will the ret. ring on stub axle stay on or
is there risk of it falling off inside the diff?

spelunkerd says:

Somebody needs to bring another Chevy Tahoe to Brian so he can finish this
video on another truck. These axles change styles only every several years
so what is learned here will apply to multiple models.

briansmobile1 says:

@Goregoon That’s the spirit!~ I’ll see what I can do….

Gillie021 says:

hey brian, do you know what it would feel like if the shift fork gear was
flipped the wrong way, i installed mine and didnt look at that , it bolted
up fine but when i went to turn it after torquing it up it was not smooth
to turn easy then kinda rough, think i should pull it off and check it???

kenman1717 says:

great video. i get to do this every day. i’m glad i have a hoist to use.
but the 03 up changed a bit with how those axles are cliped in, its just a
c clip now. that one th eclip is part of the gear that you took off the end
of the axle, well of course you know that, just saying for other people
that do it. actually the right hand side one it my fav to do. just to many
bad experiences with the left one on 3/4 tons, cuting it off, seperating
the diff, etc.

Drew927 says:

i wander if you can remove the front axle without dissasembling the
steering bars in front of it

briansmobile1 says:

I’m sorry, I’m not sure on that one. I don’t know.

John Weirich says:

Up to 2003 all you do is turn the key on and engage 4wd. This will retain
the washer then the axle will come out with a healthy “tap”. remove the
swaybar link first. The axle shift motor needs to connected electrically to
hold the shift sleeve and washer in place.

memorycdrew says:

The easiest way to change the seals is to loosen the pass side mounting
bolts, put a floor jack under the pumpkin/pig/whatever you want to call it,
remove the pass side bolts, remove the drivers side upper mounting bolt,
loosen the drivers side lower mounting bolt, but dont remove it, remove the
wiring harness from the clips on the diff, but leave it connected, put the
key in the ‘ON’ position, put vehicle in 4HI. Then let the floor jack down
ever so slowly so the diff is hanging upside down

briansmobile1 says:

I’ve had fantastic luck. Not a single come back. spelunkerd has a good
video on this too.

A Sayler says:

There is no video past 4:56. Maybe he knocked himself out with a hammer
rather than the axle.

blazinloud says:

you make good video’s! what us beginners need is detail! not much is common
sense to us yet lol but please keep up the good work!

Drew927 says:

i have to drop the front axle, the y pipe, cross member, starter, and skid
plate just to replace gasket for my oil pan. too much shitty work. i am
glad those cv shafts unbuckle so you don’t have to deal with that shit

SeaRay45DB says:

I have read allot of comments that after they do this procedure, the seals
start leaking again. Have you had this problem? Any idea why? Also, others
are posting to not bother as it leaks still. Didnt know if you had any
comments regarding this as well. Too bad on the hard drive, this is good
stuff!

Goregoon says:

@briansmobile1 By the time this guy get’s his bill, he’s gonna WISH he took
it to a dealership. LoL Sorry to see yer vid screwed, looking forward to
seeing the rest. I am an absorber, I have always learned better by watching
rather then reading.

briansmobile1 says:

@asayle3r5 Ooooohhhhh! That’s a FAIL lol ha ha ha ha. Stupid upload. I’ll
do another one when I get back from the lake ; )

briansmobile1 says:

@Drew927 Good luck brother!
