Turned out that this was not the problem on mine. Air pockets were to
blame. Even after coolant came gushing back out of the radiator at me when
I filled it yesterday, it still needed over half a gallon. Let it sit
overnight, disconnected and reconnected the battery and filled her up.
About your gear, I was reading that someone found the gear for sale. Surely
it would be cheaper than buying the whole assembly. I think they said it
was O’Reilly Autoparts or something. Will try to find it.

Crazy; found your video because I am doing the same exact thing today on my
02 Blazer. Not idea why, but it stopped working after I replaced my heater
core yesterday. I was reading about people being able to take it out by
getting to it from behind the glove compartment without taking the dash
out, but it looks damn tight.
