Tune up, spark plug replacement and coil pack replacement, Cadillac Seville, Deville, etc. – VOTD

Tune up: 60 to 90 minutes ($450 / $695 / $800) In this video I replaced the spark plugs and coil packs on a 2001 Cadillac Seville. It has the Northstar V8 which I’m sure this process will…

Those engines stink and often none of those fixes will solve a misfire on
it. Do Scotty’s video “how to tell if your head gasket is blown” and see if
it has a blown head gasket. It probably does, or lemme put it this way if
it doesn’t yet it will. Those engines blew head gaskets like there’s no
tomorrow. Costs triple the value of that car to replace them. Also motor
mounts are a common failure on those as they are filled with silicone paste
about a quarter of an inch from the exhaust. So they melt and break, and
cost about $1500 to replace them. Make sure you let the owner know not to
spend a lot of money on that car because it’s basically worth nothing at
that age.

That first sparkplug did look rather cooked, looks like its been in there a
looooooong time.
The heat rating of plugs can mislead people into thinking the mixture is
wrong, and a far too cold a plug will lead to misfiring as its not being
kept clean.
They didnt make the rear plugs overeasy to change did they, transverse
engines can be a sod.

What a job at the back just to change the plugs. I would hate to do that
job as I like to look and feel the plugs back in on the first thread.
Think I would be happier with a straight 6 cyl motor. Nice vid.

the gap is critical on those northstar engines. seem to be very sensitive
if worn.
