@pRnoStar With limited tools and space, I made some funny moments haha no
wonder it took forever. Car is running great with about 3,000 miles since
the repair. No more temperature problems.

joejaggos says:

Great job Im getting ready to do my N*.WITH THE ENGINE IN THE CAR how did
you put the cam gear and chain back on? with (Cam-chain tensionerner )
tight as it is. Im not sure the way I can put it back afther I that that

Fernando Mata says:

Hey there, I have a 2001 deville with 154k miles on the dash. Awsome car
drives like a cloud and hauls butt, with 26MPG. You cant even tell it is
turn on when its on idle and your standing beside it, just a awesome car.
But i think its headgasket blew. It only get hot on long trips. I believe
this northstar can run for another 100k, With the head fixed. Where can one
buy a kit to fix the problem. Any help will be apreciated since i plan on
taking this fix myself. TIA

maeng9981 says:

Hey Jake, I already ordered my second set for my 99 Deville just a few days
ago (with the jig mounting bolts for 99) – and I am again waiting for
another great experience with your products.

Daniel Christopher says:

im ready to buy this kit for my 97 eldorado. will I have any difficulties
since its a different body?

tim carroll says:

Oh, I don’t know? I own two “Cadillac only” mechanic shops, I am the
engineer who designed the correct N* Head Studs and manufacture them. My
company is the “only company” that offers lifetime warranty on H/G repair.
I am President of the largest Cadillac club known to date. I guess you
could say I may know just a tad about Cad’s. We eat, sleep and breathe the
N*, how about you?

Anthony Wayne says:

Speaking of contact,I have called you twice! wanting to order a kit and
have yet to receive a reply. You have an elaborate web page leading people
to believe this organization is actually organized but you don’t return
calls. If you are not in because of the holidays, then perhaps you should
have a message on your answering service to that effect. Now if you all are
so busy that you don’t need my money then I’m sorry I wasted your time.

MsChristinaAnn says:

First of all, it was a mistake that this was commented on my account, but
now that I’m involved I’ll say a couple of things. Mr. Timcarrollccc
travelmech1 was not trying to insult you, but was trying to encourage the
uploader of this video. See that start button at the bottom of the page?
Yeah, click it. See the option that says shut down? Yeah click that one too
and go outside and stop whining on the internet. No one here on the
internet cares. Love, ChristinaAnn P.S. What are you 60? Grow up

Anthony Wayne says:

Okay everyone, I have to print a retraction on my last post.It turns out
that Jake and his employees were down with the flu and so were not able to
get to my impatient ass as soon as I wanted. He finally called, apologized
for the delay, and gave me a discount! So please disregard my rants and
chalk it up to a typical American who is in need of immediate gratification.

tim carroll says:

Hey numb nuts, MAENG9981 and myself are friends outside this youtube video,
so put a sock in it. I’ll remember your location if you ever call us for
studs. Yes we are the manufacturer.

Michael Francis says:

hi I was reading the comment, I live in the bahamas and have a cadillac 4.6
that needs the same work done on it. so my question if you would be so nice
is to let me know what is the name of the kit and where can I order it
from. does it ready works. I would really like to see my car back on the
road. great video man i need to see that.

tim carroll says:

I am sorry if I said anything that ruined your day, please forgive me, I
am not really that kind of person.

tim carroll says:

I was looking for you on the forums, did not see you? On the home page look
under Cadillac Clubs. You can write to me from there, we have our own
forums located there. We are CCC and CCN it will all make sense to you once
you get there. I am just limiting what I say here. I was unable to PM you
here or when I clicked on your handle. As soon as you locate our website
let me know? You can email us, write on our contact form, write me from our
personal forums on Cadillac Owners.com or simply call

Hershy Paypay says:

I have a 96 seville sls northstar with 200k miles, runs great, no overheat
or anything, I always kept the gm pellets in the coolant anytime coolant
was changed or breached. AM I GOING TO HAVE TO DO THIS SOON? IS IT JUST
GOING TO HAPPEN? scared.

maeng9981 says:

@JohnQuincyAdams1 The complexity of the engine bay and the actual engine
size come into play when it comes to the cost, there are engines out there
that are simple and small enough to do any work while the engine is still
in the car, and there are also engines, like Northstars, that require
dropping the subframe to easily work on it. It’s all about the labor, and
the Northstar costs more than small 4cyl. engines because it’s a FWD V8
like I said before. No space around the engine.

Anthony Wayne says:

Crooks who dont stand behind the kit. If they crack your block like they
did mine your just sol.

MsChristinaAnn says:

bluehaze214 says:

How much was the kit to do this… I saw one for $600

NorthstarPerformance says:

I apologize bootyman234, I myself, and two employees have come down with a
very bad case of the flu. Recovering now. Please contact me direct on my
cell at 204-216-0011 and I will do my best to take care of you as my
customer. – Jake

maeng9981 says:

Thank you! I’ve put about 10,000 miles since the repair, and it’s been 1.5
years. Running strong!

travelmech1 says:

What Mr TIMCARROLLCC forgot was even he was a Beginner Novice at one time
but stayed with it to become a pro. Everybody has to start somewhere,
sometime, but stay with it long enough to become profecient. What I
appraciate about MAENG9981 is that he is not afraid to try something on his
own and share it with the rest of us. Hell, I know some professionals who
would not even attempt this repair. My hats off, way to go MAENG9981!

maeng9981 says:

@metallakid14 Yes. You would need to tilt the engine/subframe several times
though. If you are using the stud kit from Northstar Performance, there is
no possibility that you can put your rear head back on the block after stud
installation. Lack of space.

maeng9981 says:

@JohnQuincyAdams1 What do you mean other engines don’t require this repair?
When the head gaskets go they need replacing….. and on any engine this
requires removal of valve/cam cover and the head. Head bolt threading was
fine with this engine but I just took the precaution of studding the engine
so I won’t have to worry about it ever pulling, if it was going to happen.

maeng9981 says:

Things tend to go missing! I sometimes wonder myself, I really did this
without any proper tools lol

tim carroll says:

I just got one from a MsChristinaAnn boy she sure ranted, I told her she
needed to read all the post before posting comments. I told her we were
friends and she told me she doubted that, LOL

maeng9981 says:

@ch33sehead actually it takes around 15 minutes to carefully work on one
hole and there are 20 bolt holes. If you include several coffee brakes…..
Takes too long time haha

MsChristinaAnn says:

P.S.S. What is posted on the internet is permanent, so think before you
post :*

maeng9981 says:

I am glad that my video helped you!

Carsandtrucks33 says:

what kind of life span dose this give you is it a good permanent fix?

NorthstarPerformance says:

Maeng9981 – I thank you for uploading the video and helping direct people
to our company for the studs. If you ever need another set please don’t
hesitate to contact me. Make sure you talk to me (Jake). I appreciate this.

Renaldo Hicks says:

@carandtrucks N*performance has been selling these stud kits for some
years! Now. Over a 1,000 repaired 0 failure to date. They also give u a
5yr/100,000 mile warranty

Fernando Mata says:

meang9981, Thanks for the reply. Ive checked the purge line it will flow
normal when cool, but ran for awhile it will try to backfeed. It gets
hot!!! Only lose coolant after it gets hot. When i finish this semester i
will take on this challenge. Ive checked the website, but ill have to call
for pricing.

Renaldo Hicks says:

Took alot of balls to do this one on ur own. Way it go!! I would attempt
this repair myself if mines ever goes bad (hopefully not) hows it running
to date??

ch33sehead says:

10 minutes per hole, times 16 holes… so almost 3 hours for the job… not
too bad I guess.

maeng9981 says:

It’s not the aluminum heads/block that are problematic. Actually the
block/head rarely, if ever, warp, even after severe overheating. I am not
sure what you mean by using something other than cast aluminum, there’s
basically no aftermarket parts for these engines. It’s the bolts or the
hole thread that give up as well as the gasket itself, when repaired
properly, and done cooling system maintenance properly, you can expect to
not have the same problem for a very long time.

maeng9981 says:

@metallakid14 Yes. You would need to tilt the engine/subframe several times
though. If you are using the stud kit from Northstar Performance, there is
no possibility that you can put your rear head back on the block after stud
installation. Lack of space.

zzzhuh says:

Ahh I see what your saying, So couldn’t you use stronger bolts and replace
the gasket early on and not have any problems?
