How To Rebuild A Cadillac Power Antenna

How To Rebuild A Cadillac Power Antenna

After testing out a Cadillac power antenna core Josh was able to find on the shelf, he decided to rebuild the unit. He will show you how to take apart and rebuild a 1961-1964 Cadillac antenna with the parts necessary, including the mast. Typically, these antenna units just need to be cleaned up and lubricated before installation. Using the step-by-step process laid out in this video, this job is pretty straightforward if you plan on rebuilding your own antenna. This procedure covers most Cadillac models from the late 50s to the 60s. Enjoy!

Edgar Herrera says:

Hi there, I have a 78 coupe deville and the antenna just gave out last night. It's the one with the CB on it. Is this rebuildable. I like to keep it original. Please advise. Much thanks. New subscriber here. Great videos

Tony Kucherry says:

I'm looking at buying a 1978 Cadi Coupe Deville, It has the factory CB radio built into the radio. The power antenna isn't working. is there a rebuild kit for this antenna?
Thanks, Tony K

michael habschmidt says:

Why is it when I screw in the antenna bracket that holds the wire from the radio I lose the antenna?

Caddy Daddy says:

This sounds like a short to ground in either the antenna or cable. Using an ohmmeter at the antenna check that the center pin of the connector is not grounded. If it checks good, then disconnect the cable at the radio and connect it to the antenna and make the same test. If there is a short, then the problem is in the cable or something being displaced at the antenna when it is connected. If at the antenna the center pin is shorted to the ground, then check that the antenna mast is not making contact with any metal. Josh

michael habschmidt says:

Hi, I installed the antenna and installing the antenna cable from the radio to the antenna it does not work. When I back out the screws that holds the little antenna cover to where the cable goes in the cable from the radio it works please help

Caddy Daddy says:

Glad you liked the video Charles! No secret methods at Caddy Daddy. We even show how to rebuild parts we sell as rebuilt for those that want keep their car as original as possible. I have damaged or destroyed parts when figuring out some of these jobs so you guys don't have to. The antennas are pretty easy, but some items are very difficult to figure out a repair or rebuild process. Luckily we have a lot of cores to work with and I always try to experiment on damaged parts (bad corrosion or cracks for example) that have no value. Josh

charles bottita says:

Thank you so much for sharing that! So many restorers will not show their methods , under-stably! Too many times i have damaged parts not knowing how to properly disassemble them. Great video!!!

Chuck Swanson says:

Nice video! How much more work to replace the two lead wires? Would be nice to have new wires instead of 50+ year old wires. especially since they are in engine compartment, by the passenger exhaust. Are they soldered on? Could you demo replacing wires too as a pt 2 to video? 🙂 Thanks

Faabs says:

Such a perfect video! Keep it up!

MrObsche says:

Tech Tips with Josh are great. Greetings from a Caddy Daddy customer from Switzerland.

MisterJive says:

Mine runs fine, extends all the way out, but doesn't retract the last 6 inches of mast. Does that mean that the clutch plate is too loose then, or is it likely just old grease?

Fixin Stuff says:

I like those harbor freight oilers, keep a bunch of them labeled with different lubes,
