These are very tight fitting waterpumps. It takes quite a bit of force to remove and replace them. Is the Mechanic removing the waterpump in the right direction? It comes off clockwise. (pushing towards the windshield)
Hi hopefully you can Help I need my water pump replaced and the mechanic cannot get the old water pump off he say it’s almost like it’s stuck please help I need my caddy back!
Awesome! Glad the Video helped you out. 1. I never use an Impact on anything Aluminum. 2. I wouldn’t use an Impact on the tool made to remove the pump. Repeated blows to the teeth on the tool would break the tool or the new pump. But. Sometimes the only way Autozone employees can learn is to break stuff like the rest of us. Lol!
I just replaced my water pump in my 05 Bonneville GXP with northstar 4.6 V8 engine and this video really helped alot!! Thanks for posting!! FYI this employee at autozone told me to use an impact wrench if i had one to use on the waterpump removal tool!! I was like you know it’s an aluminum engine right!!! He said thats how he did his.. lol Just like you said in the video you don’t need to us an impact tool just a cheater bar and you will be good…
I have a 2001 Deville and replaced the thermostat but just can’t seem to get it to bleed properly. I’ve tried everything I have seen on the internet with no real success. At this point I’m ready to pull radiator and have a regular radiator cap built into the top of the radiator. What a stupid design.
No one vid totally explains how to bleed a 2001 Northstar just say it is self bleeding which is not true.
Thanks for the help !! your video was a real life saver. We needed to change the water pump belt but was getting faulty instructions…….Your video made it possible todo it inten minutes……Thanks again!!!
is changing the belt a complicated process? you didnt show that other than removing the tensioner. I will be changing the Waterpump, idler pulley, tensioner and belt, I have an 05 deville, I saw another YT vid with a guy with an 06 had to remove the fuel rails and all the wiring harnesses and it looked scary. I dont have to do all that to change the belt do I?
You’re a brave soul for tackeling this job. because this engine sucks when they made it…….it was engineered to be taken back to the dealer for work. I did a starter job on one of these…….shiiiiid!!!..Never again!
Hell yeah it can!……cause the coolant in the system isn’t circulating…it can be the thermostat also. But if you’re going to do just the thermostat job…..might as well do the water pump too
Would you know ware to get the removal tool for the water pump? Or would you know the service name of the tool? Im going to have to to the same process
Thanks for the video, but I don’t understand why you skip so many important things (like how you removed the engine mounts… or removal of the actual water pump!) but you showed us before you have the air filter back in? Odd choice of things to include/exclude.
I think it’s safe to say, anyone coming to youtube for auto repair help isn’t a pro. Maybe don’t skip over so much next time?
I Really have to say rhis was one of the Best Videos i have seen for Working with my Car you Really Get 5 +++++ for this one Thank you so much

Do you have a removal video?

Thanks 4 that video I’m doin the same thing on my STS
It’ll be gear if u show us how to take almost every single fastener…
You can rent them or buy them at almost any parts store. Its just a GM waterpump removal tool.
Would you know ware to get the removal tool for the water pump? Or would you know the service name of the tool? Im going to have to to the same process
It takes quite a bit of force to remove the pump from the housing. I had to use an extension(cheater pipe) to remove this one. Its a very tight fit.

How did you get it out. I have the tool but its stuck in it real good
You didn’t show how to use the tool very well.
Thanks for the info. Just needed to know what the “Special Tool” was that the parts store had listed
GM Made the pump like this to save money on bolts and tooling. I’ll stick with my Towncar….lol
It can cause it to do that as well. Lol!
your car can blow up!
