I use that Walmart fluid for about 26,000 miles in my Trailblazer and
notice it took a little to long to shift from 1st to 2nd. Went to castro
trans fluid and my shift was quicker to 2nd. Until this happen, I thought
trans fluid was not to important.

blackericdenice says:

The fluid is not the problem. When you don’t change the filter. The pump
can’t bill enough pressure to apply clutches and they burn up.

blackericdenice says:

It is never to late to change fluid and filter if the car still drive. I
got a 02 venture with 169,000 miles. This trans stop shifting, so the guy
sold it to me for $400. I change the fluid and filter and been driving it 7
months. It does need rebuilding but 7 months is damn good bad trans.

blackericdenice says:

It don’t but people who don’t know how an auto trans work think so.

I also got a P0174 torque converter clutch performance issue and or stuck
closed solenoid on a 70K transmission what causes this ? btw its a 2005 kia
sedona

Daniel Cardona says:

Correnction its codeP0714

I agree with the engine oil part, however. Changing dirty/old/degraded
engine oil is always a good thing. In severe cases it can cause sludge to
break loose and clog oil passages, etc, but if changed multiple times in
short succession it can prevent a bricked engine even in a severely
neglected vehicle.

Daniel Cardona says:

Kinda sounds like I got the same issue as you do but my fluid is black.

KamD450 says:

Man you are heaven sent….. thx bro, I think I’m going to tackle this
myself.

Daniel Cardona says:

How does changing fluid fail a transmission I thought its like changing
dirty oil that its a good thing?

Daniel Cardona says:

Okay well im still trying to find out wtf is going on with the engine light
code and then ill see in getting fluid changed every few miles and then
maybe in another 5-10k

knurlgnar24 says:

I’m not familiar with Kias or Hyundais so I cannot comment on a P0174 code
on those vehicles without more research. I wish you luck!

knurlgnar24 says:

I forgot to mention this in the video: In this vehicle the transmission
fluid level is checked with the engine running, in park. That’s rather
important. Oops.

knurlgnar24 says:

yeowtch! If it’s black it’s too late! You need a new transmission. You can
try changing the fluid but if you do you’ll probably end up with a failed
transmission. If you can I’d trade it off ASAP.

knurlgnar24 says:

Changing the fluid in a transmission that has been neglected will often
cause failure. The detergents in the new fluid can dissolve varnish and
knock deposits loose, and the different (now proper) viscosity can cause
behavior changes that aren’t necessarily good for a transmission that is
used to operating improperly. In my mind you have 2 options: Get rid of it
now while it still works, or change the fluid and hope for the best but
budget to buy a new transmission.
