It should be about the same, I have not worked on a 1998 yet. The Factory
Service Manual for my 2003 states to remove the joints too.

Thanks for the video. Replacing the front driver axle on a 2002 deville and
cant get the inner CV joint out. Now I know theres a C clip in there I have
to somehow overcome.
No, it is not necessary to drain the transmission.
Is it about the same for a ’98 Deville? This looks pretty simple and I’d
rather not deal with removing ball joints like some other instructions I’ve
found online say to do.
I did this job over the weekend and it worked exactly the same on my ’98.
Thanks for this video, removing those strut bolts are way easier than
prying out the ball joint.
