Thanks for the video. I followed your instructions and now my door works. I also have a problem with the rear door locking and unlocking. Hopefully I can find some help online for this issue.

My experience with Cadillac Dealerships: If *you* don’t know what exactly needs to be done then they will never figure it out…. :/

David Waltermyer says:

I did use electronics cleaner initially, it worked for a few days, and then failed again.

STS Part Numbers

Left Door Part: 19120306
Right Door Part: 19120307

myoozikismylife says:

DId This repair on my 05 STS. Now both doors work like they are supposed to, thanks for the video.

Keith Gelmore says:

Try using high quality electrical cleaner on the micro switches. Pull the outside door handle open and spray directly on the square part of plastic handle while pulling in and out. Worked for me. I used Spray-On electrical and Contact cleaner. No need to remove the door panel. Wipe outside of the door of excess cleaner.

WOW! Thanks so much. I have a 2006 STS and the passenger door never worked. I took it to Boucher Cadillac in both Racine Wi AND Waukesha Wi and they NEVER fixed it. This was when it was under warranty. Now of course I get to do the work and pay. Why they were to lazy or ignorant about what is a obviously a common problem I cannot understand.

fernando Hurtado says:

Excellent video. Thanks for your time and willingness to share it. You save me a couple of hundred bills.

johnmb731 says:

Do you have the part numbers for the drivers and passenger doors. I have the 08 cts with auto doors too.

Denny Slover says:

I think I answered my own questions but I will put the answers on here for anyone else that needs them.
THe spring and counter weight are included in the new housing. I was able to get mine off of gmpartsDirect-dot-com too but the kit did not include the gaskets. i had to order them from the dealer.
I the housing was cheaper ($33 compared to ~85) for the remote start cars. I don’t know the difference but it is puzzling to me why the remote start would make a difference.

Denny Slover says:

Another question, does the new housing include the counter weight and spring already installed? Or do you need to bring then over from your old housing? I seem to have lost my spring :()

Denny Slover says:

I would expect the opposite.

Denny Slover says:

Thanks! I found it but I was confused by the cheaper part when it has a remote start. It’s almost double if you don’t have a remote start. I’m not sure why

bveryafraidsc says:

Look under Body Hardware, Front Door, Lock & Hardware, Handle Base.

Denny Slover says:

How did you find the part number for the switch housing? I am having the same problem on the drivers door of a 09 CTS. I looked at gmpartsdirect-dot-com but they don’t have a listing that I can find. Can you take the housing out and get the part number off of it?

kevin Carrier says:

Just wondering if anyone has come across the same problem but had it be something other than the switches? This was an excellent video but when I did the wiring tests you recommended, I had resistance between both switches. Any other recommendations on what to check or what may be the problem here?

J Swanson says:

Just did my 2005 STS. Save yourself a 100 bucks, clean and lube the micro switches with electrical cleaner and dielectric silicone, work the switches. Both my doors were bad and it fixed both, you still have to take them apart but it’s worth it.

bsalyer23 says:

This saved me about $300. EBay had switch for $15. Excellent tutorial. There is a trick to getting handle out. Push spring mechinism in a little from inside door and slide handle towards back seat. It slides right out when you pull it. Nice job.

Thank you

thank alot make me some labor hours on your video.

SuperSparr01 says:

Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a ton of time and money when I showed it to the tech at the dealership that wanted to charge me $670 to replace and paint my door handle, and got this fix under my extended warranty.

CNC295 says:

Thank you for this video. Was very very helpful.

Scott Bassaro says:

Dude, Thanks for a great video my car and my problem ordered parts today and will install in about 5 days (shipping). I am sure this will save me at least $150.00 and not the pain of getting it to the garage. Thanks again Scott

David Waltermyer says:

@1980willid yes

David Waltermyer says:

@Singh13saab part number is in the video description

David Waltermyer says:

@twk300zx it is a 2008 model

Tom Kniest says:

Nice video, very helpful. What year is the CTS? Reason I ask is because I have the same problem on my ’09, but according to the parts searches, the part you bought isn’t on the ’09 parts list.

David Waltermyer says:

For the passenger side door (right side) you will need GM part number 25864472 (HOUSING K) if you determine that the micro switch(es) are bad. I purchased mine from gmpartsdirect-dot-com – Have fun!

Michael Parker says:

Thanks for posting. I had the same problem with my 2005 STS (on the drivers side). I just replaced the micro switches and the door handle, which is the antenna. The whole process took about 1 hour. Cost me $220 for the parts. Thanks again

David Waltermyer says:

I’m really not sure, I have never had an STS. If it’s a similar year with similar features, it’s probably a similar process. Do some google-ing…

David Waltermyer says:

yup
