I have 2 Cadillacs, 03 DeVille with the N* engine and 181,000 miles on it and 05 SRX V6, I love both of them, and I’d never think of buying anything else, specially after I saw an accident on i94 when a CTS went offroad and flipped (driver fault) and bot driver and passenger got out without any scratch,
Haters please get informed before you post here, the Northstar is one of the best engines in the world, even Jeremy Clarkson loved them
Take care of your engine/car and it will take care of you.

Mike Swanson says:

I have a 2001 Deville and I change all of the fluids every year and oil gets changed every 3,000 miles or so with the correct oil Cadillac says to use, they make it easy and let you know for a reason, because these aren’t the kind of cars you can half ass thing going with the cheap stuff is only going to bite you in the ass later.

Mike Swanson says:

I hate when ignorant people try to slander the name of a great and important name in America’s automobile history because they refused to take proper care and maintain their vehicles properly. I know that the head gasket problem is one engineering flaw but there are multiple ways to avoid this, I’ve seen plenty of high mileage northstars from the 90s that haven’t ran into this problem because their owners maintained them properly.

aode06 says:

My advice, don’t buy a Cadillac EVER! Honestly I wish they would go out of business for selling hard working people a total pile of shit for a high price.Il never buy another Cadillac!

Ive owned several new ones, and used, all had multiple engine and electrical failures requiring the vehicle to be at the dealership for a week to a month! And get this, my rental was a north star, head gasket blew on the highway!

dstarks80 says:

I have too but Cadillac has always been held to a very high standard so they get bad rap when they fail. In the days of the big block Caddy and up to the use of various Chevy and Olds motors in big Caddys, head gasket failure was almost nonexistent on big Caddys. Caddy motors have had frequent head gasket failure since 1982 when the HT4100 came out. This generation of car owners have accepted head gasket failure as normal on all makes and models. IMO head gasket failure is bad engineering.

hepster7 says:

I’ve had my 01′ DeVille since 01′ The only major jobs I had done is the tranny and the coil pack and spark plugs and of course basic service all cars need, brakes, etc;.

Cadillac before they stopped making the DTS (Deville Touring Sudan) in 2011 are the best full size American luxury car with over 300HP and a V8 engine.
The cars I see now look like creepy compact euro trash cars. Cadillac pre 2011 is a great car IMO. I would rather go with a pre-owned 2011 DTS than get a brand new anything!

I’m sure its not just Cadillac i’ve seen examples of head gasket problems with just about all makes and models.

TruAgape123 says:

And is it going to fail again, DOSEN’T the head eventually separate from the block. I thought Cadillac supposedly “fixed” this design flaw with the newer northstars? Obviously not.

green56571 says:

Waste of time just replace engine

TruAgape123 says:

Like Lexus, or Acura.

TruAgape123 says:

Now how hard was it for Cadillac to have installed a quality headgasket from the factory to begin with? The cheapened out resulting in $3000+ worth of repair work that could have been completely avoided. And what’s worse is idiots will go and buy another Cadillac instead of one of their RELIABLE competitors.

TruAgape123 says:

Why do people buy these cars and not do their homework first. Simple research would show that buying a Cadillac is a money pit waiting to fail.

TruAgape123 says:

Cadillac should be ashamed and customers should be angry. These cars truly are JUNK!!!!!!!!!

aode06 says:

There is no way to prevent a Cadillac head gasket failure or other cooling failures.

Gm have poor threads in the block the head bolts, poor head gaskets, poor coolant passages, poor grade water pumps, along with a slew of electrical issues.

I worked at a Cadillac dealership, and never will again.

They pass on the repair cost to the customer on most tickets or you pay for some of the repair. So the best thing to do is avoid all GM vehicles until their engineers STOP PLAYING GAMES.

Dominick Chavez says:

thats horrible, my dad has an 06 SRX, how can i prevent this from happening, just checking the oil?

dunnrite tallboy says:

this is the only way

Lamont Pettway says:

is it easier to pull the car from the motor or can you leave the engine in the car and pull the head that way
