I can't fix this really sweet '73 Buick Centurion! What's wrong with it & why can't I do the repair?

This beautiful green giant has the CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ in a pickle! He can’t fix it! Ironically, the owner has even named the car “Pickles”. Why can’t he fix this 1973 Buick Centurion with the Buick Big Block 455?

Raw Solo says:

Ask the Cubans about not having parts.

Bryan Campbell says:

My dad had a 1973 LeSabre (which I used to take my driver's license test), the yellow dial in the speedometer is a speed limit indicator setting (set by the driver), that as the speed needle reached that location a buzzer would go off, letting the driver know they hit their speed limit indicator. 1973 was a time when Nixon set a national speed limit of 55 MPH to save gas b/c of the gas embargo that was effecting the national gas shortage. Cool Car!

Really ? says:

Send it to Cuba! They have the ability to keep anything going forever. Amazing!

Lawrence Siskind says:

Actually, those bumpers and the front ends to which they were attached do quite a bit of crumpling. In our family '72 Olds Delta 88, my dad t-boned a Fiat at about 35 mph that had run a stop sign and the whole front end of our car acordioned totaling it. The Fiat didn't look as bad, though I'm sure it was finished also.

Nowhere Fast Garage says:

I have had good results finding parts by joining Facebook groups specific to the car you are working on and posting what part you need. They are out there. Also Wizard, you don’t mention the massive torque those engines had, even in the smog era. Nothing like that Ferrari I’m sure.

Awesomus Maximus says:

It makes just 8 hp more than my NA 3.0 Lexus

T-Roy C says:

Car's of that year were required to have a minimum 5mph impact bumber then for some reason the federal government lowered that to 2.5mph and that is why cars today dent so easy

J Drake says:

New cars are going to be a nightmare. No standardization across years and where are you going to find those damnable screens they're using now

Good Time Johnny says:

That's happening to every make and model to date. This is a "throw away" society. There are certain parts on a 10 year old Ram that just aren't available. At the shop I joke around about being the new Cuba. Piece the car together however you can. Modify the car to parts you can get. Never thought it would end up like this but that's what happens when things are out sourced and cheap. This happens frequently on electronics for vehicles only 5 years old.

Joel pierce says:

Jay Leno must have a source!

Kirk Matheson says:

My father had a 1968 Buick Electra 225. It came with a AM/FM stereo radio. The left channel was connected to a speaker in the center of the dash. The right channel was connected to a speaker mounted in the right side of the rear shelf. They must have added more speakers in later years. If the speakers are a standard size, they should be too hard to replace. Most were 5 x 7, 6 x 9, or 4 x 10 in those days. Radio Shack sold those sizes.

Joel pierce says:

I used to work on these barges quite often. It is ashamed parts aren’t available. I am older than you and we used to have many American made parts to choose from. Pick your brand. Now good luck finding American made parts.

B PD says:

I had a motorcycle repair shop where the owner could repair those cables with the part on the end. I think he soldered it back together. Lasted for while.

Dan Pettis says:

I bet you I can fix it

Aaron D says:

I wish manufacturers still put Turbo Gooch Cooler 9000's in modern cars.

Luis Cerezo says:

Looks like a bike brake cable

Dan Daman says:

At least as far as the mirror, there is a way to disassemble it and fix it up, and there may be some parts available in a diy junkyards. Old parts are generally repairable, granted some jerryrigging may be required … newer cars, on the other hand, are beyond hope with all the recycled plastic in them.

Ulrich Haepp says:

Please, please-sorry to say, but do something about the blue colored inside of your headlamp housings of your wonderfull DS!! It such a significant item of her so well designed face, and NEVER had the color of the body. It ALWAYS has to be a very, very light, whitish grey, and the blue color simply destroys the most significant points of her face, only to show initially, that a person with no knowledge about the car has deranged the exterior by putting his own poor taste of design over the original work of art, or just wanted to simplify the process of painting. It would be a 5 $ job for you, and would extinct a very, very important mistake of the hole appearance!!!!! I am sorry, but i barely cannot stand seeing her like that!!!!It is something like painting a Hitler moustache on Mona Lisa.

Barbara Pape says:

I was 18 when this Buick was made, although i can't remember all the models
Buicks were a common sight in the 70's TV shows.
This was a golden era for American cars, they look far more desirable than the plain
tinfoil box's that were sold in the UK.
The lack of spare parts is now making owning them and expensive headache, there
used to be several specialists close to where i live, only one is left and they have a list
of cars that they refuse to get involved with.

TheMich36 says:

Funny how I was thinking that the Wizard and Jay Leno are my favourite in dept car reviewers. Then, he mentioned Jay Leno. I love how you guys explain and show things on particular cars. Not that I need to know, I just love it. Thanks Wizard. Mrs. Wizard, good luck with your new channel. As a retired teacher myself, I understand why you decided to quit.

Jason says:

She's doing 90mph standing still. so fast !!

Vince says:

Great video Mr. Wizard, brings back a lot of memories; I am retired from that business but back in the day I worked on many. If memory serves me right that car would have been equipped with an evap cannister located side of radiator. I don't believe Buick used a vacuum controlled purge valve but instead just used a draft hose going to the air filter snorkel. Of course, with a car that old any rubber part can be bad such as the cruise control that you pointed out. Those old evap systems were not as good or as well sealed as newer systems and with the rubber and plastic parts I'm sure there is a vapor leak to be found, plus, I don't think there was any vapor control for carburetor bowl. Keep up the good work, I never miss a video.
