It will be the same concept but the bolts and tools needed will change.

Michael Moore says:

Would this be the same for a 96 regal?

Michael Peterson says:

Taking it to a mechanic isn’t really a option. Yeah I know it isn’t normal, just trying to get a idea. I am aware one can’t really tell without looking at it. It seems my car uses drum breaks, so the sounds make more sense in relation to the hardware. After some homework, I’m thinking hardware failure, either springs need replacing or there is an adjustment needed. Pretty sure the grinding is the worn drum breaks. Disk breaks for the front are easier, and this video helps with that. Thanks.

You will not want the drive the vehicle at this point and bring it to a mechanic to have them find what is broken or worn down at this time. None of what is happening is normal.

Michael Peterson says:

I have a 95 buick LeSabre custom, and when I come a stop it has a grinding down. I am assuming that is the wear indication. But when I let go of the break, I hear a clunk/thunk sound at the back. Besides the grinding sound, what could that second sound be?

A lot of 2000,2001 LeSabres have the screw in type rear caliper piston. There is a 3/8 in. socket tool available at most auto parts stores called the “cube”. It works great on the screw in style pistons.

twatripp says:

On my 2002 LeSabre, the piston on the rear calipers was the screw-in type as suggested by some other comments. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and screwed the piston in about 6 turns until there was just enough clearance for the caliper to slip on over the new pads. You have to rotate the piston so that it lines up the piston with the “bow tie” perpendicular to the caliper so that it will seat on the pin the sticks out from the pad.

1aauto says:

On the vehicle we had, it didn’t have that style set-up, it required us to use a C-Clamp as shown in the video.

fischerll says:

I understand using a screwdriver to partially compress the caliper to loosen the pads so the caliper can be removed. What I’m asking is to Completely compress the caliper to put on new pads and a new rotor I thought that on this style caliper the piston had to be turned clockwise to be “screwed” back in to bottom out the piston. At 7:18 in the video it shows a C clamp being used without rotating the piston to move the piston back. Thanks, Larry

1aauto says:

On this vehicle we were actually able to use a screwdriver to compress the piston and remove the caliper. This should be the same from 00-05.

fischerll says:

You show the caliper being compressed with a C-clamp. I thought the caliper was the type that had to be screwed in to be returned, not compressed.

Seconded! Thank you.
