I have to say this was an awesome video to post!!! I went to radio shack got the resistors, I hadn’t soldered in a while but was able to do well enough that the cluster now works fine. Thank you for saving me more than $100.00!

Deanna Yoris says:

I wish I new someone that would do this for my 1998 Buick regal LS… Everything else lights up but the mileage don’t. I live in San Antonio tx. If anyone knows someone here message me back for a reasonable price 🙂

Dennis Wallace says:

Anyone in or near Houston that can do this? Im not good with this kind of stuff.

estes426 says:

anyone near abilene texas i am i can do this for you. thanks bigriver2011@gmail.com

estes426 says:

this really works just did mine today, bought a iron at radio shack for 29.99 bought a mid range one. some solder and two 5 pack of 150 ohm 1/2 watt resistors these resistors i bought are bigger than the factory ones but there are small holes just below each solder points so run your leads off the resistors through the holes and solder them that way theres enough room. works great,, good luck guys its really easy.. thanks for the awesome video..

fanton19911 says:

Thank you for your video. I did repair my buick today May 04, 2013. It works very well and saved me a lot of money. Again Thank you.

moodyblue426 says:

Thanks so much for this video! I was able to fix my odometer readout on my 2002 Regal LS and it worked like a charm. The factory resistors were loose and one fell right off as I opened it. Saved me hundreds of dollars had I replaced the entire cluster (as this is what GM tells you they they are not repairable). Easy to follow and an easy fix (so long as you have a steady hand to solder). Thanks again!

dougcepe says:

If you trying to fix this board just remember it just has to schematically correct.
You have three 150 ohm resistors in a parrallel circuit.

dougcepe says:

Important Note
I tryed to desolder middle resistor and it broke.
When we tryed to resolder new resistor in the circuit it pulled out of the curcuit board.
If you have this problem or something like happens.
You can made a resistor wire bridge to cover all three resistors.
I bent the resistor leads down to touch lower resistor and then bent up to touch upper resistor. It is a like a loop on bottom and then goes to top resistor.
Just tack the solder joints.
My resistor wire bridge works.

mark nakach says:

what do i do !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i tried to solder the top 4 on the right but i only got 3 right and the 4th i was forced to connect it phisically by lifting the metal link strip out of the green plastic and wrapping it around the resistor then gluing it because it burnt out of the plastic it dosent work still could anyone tell me if that is the problem !!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

utsports says:

I found out about that when my brothers Instrument Cluster was dim and sometimes no illumination so I removed it from the dash and took it apart and scanned across the board with a magnifying glass and soldered some areas that I thought might work but it didn’t so while in hand a Carbon Film surface mount Resistors popped of the circuit Board then figured out that must be or probably was the problem so ohm ed resistors
he went and bought them and I solder them in place and its bright now

Ton Loc says:

Did you get it fixed yet? If you’re near Seattle, I could get it and fix it–I’m going to fix mine! This is awesome!

Jessi Argraves says:

I wish I had someone who could do this for me!!! Thanks! I’m going to share…so get mine fixed!!

Doug Willoughby says:

Just finished mine and replaced all 8 resisters. My daughter- in-law repairs all sorts of printed boards. If you live in Ontario Canada she can repair it for you. Just E-Mail me at
willoughby.doug@gmail.com Thank you so much for your help it works great

tone loc says:

so basically im shit out of luck if i dont know how to solder

Ok so I replaced the resistors.. The milege and driver info all lights up but the backlight is still out and the dimmer switch dont dim anything. How do I get the bulbs working? New bulbs?

aussiechic06 says:

Thank you sooooo much for the very detailed instructional video! Just finished soldering in the new resistors, put the gauge cluster back in, and voila! Works awesome! My hubby will be very pleased when he sees that his mileage is back up and running! Just as a side note, at first the mileage would not roll over; The trip meter was functioning properly, but the mileage wasn’t moving. All you have to do is push the trip meter button in and let it spring back, and then the mileage starts moving.

Bill Johnston says:

Say, my PRNL lights are out in the 2003 Buick, will be using your tip this next week to fix – much thanks. My fuel gauge is all over the place, full empty. Might it be the dash cluster where the problem is?? Any thoughts on that? I’d rather fix something there than fuel sender in the tank. Thanks again – Bill

bus10011 says:

Thanks a lot for your help, now I can get my inspection sticker yay …the 150 ohm, 1/2 watt resistor worked perfect

justice smith says:

good day,im just going to say thank you very much for sharing this video ,we just did repair our 1998 buick regal gauge cluster we followed ur video and it works…again more power to you and thank you and God bless…

IH8WHEELIES says:

this was my old account, i lost the password, and have no way of getting it. i have other channels as well. I use this one the most, but also have Mrwbodyperformace. or you can message me on FB.

MrDucer1 says:

@justice smith
You can get them at radio shack
Just ask for 150 ohm 1/2 watt resistors…. They work awesome I just solder mine and they work 110% guarantee

justice smith says:

hi,thanks for sharing the video ,but i have a question…where i can buy the resistor?is it at the electronic stores? i try at the source but they dnt have the 150A/1/2w resistor.so u think i can go any other electrical stores?thank you

Torch Cut says:

Worked great thanks for the video!

TheOmegaseeker says:

will this also work for a 2003 pontiac sunfire?

MrHansonmi says:

@saucy, easy way to check is to follow video instructions and use a multimeter to read the resistance of the resistors… then you will know for sure what ohm resistor to use.

@justice, yes just get the resistors. The video explains everything. All you need to research is how to take your dash apart. Once you get the instrument panel out, just follow the video instructions. I did this at my computer desk and folled the video as he was doing it.

justice smith says:

@ MrHansonmi, thankz…… so i need only a new 150 ohms resistor for that? am i correct? so that i can see how the milage it works..?

sauceyness87 says:

Do all GM’s have da same ohms? I gota oldsmobile

sauceyness87 says:

Dis shit works. 100% good lookin bro!!

MrHansonmi says:

@justice smith… i fixed it myself. Just followed the instructions in the video and googled how to take the dash apart to get the instrument cluster out… actually very easy if you follow instructions and know how to solder.

justice smith says:

mrHansonmi, who fix your car pls..? coz mine the problem is like that..its a 1998 regal LS- thankz!

chickenofsea says:

Why not use the proper surface mount resistors?

MrHansonmi says:

You are awesome!!! Awesome info. My odometer kept going bright/dim/out randomly. Followed instructions and everything is working great. Found out the 4 resistors on the upper right were bad. bottom one was missing and the other 3 just came off when touching them.

Saved me a ton of money and time. Dealer wanted to charge me for a new instrument panel and wanted an arm and a leg for it.

MsTylerrussell says:

You saved me so much money! I have owned a 97 Regal and a 01 Regal that have both had the same problem on the 97 I paid over $400 to replace the cluster and on the 01 the dealership told me it would cost me $450 to fix. I followed the info from this video and bought everything that you said and fixed this for $32 (I bought a $20 saldering iron from RadioShack but they had some for $10) Thank you soooooo much you are THE SHIT!

Jimmie Jakson says:

Thanks alot saved me time and money

nacho6307 says:

if the resistors go bad can that cause my odometer to say error?

87cjanis says:

Hey I’m having a hard time finding the resistors were could I get them from

starrwoman1 says:

I just repaired my dash about an hour ago and it works just like you said. Thank again for the information.
