Buick Encore: Intellilink HMI Module Failure – Replacement & Programming

Buick Encore: Intellilink HMI Module Failure – Replacement & Programming

In this video I bring you along as I address and repair a customer complaint of the center stack screen going blank on his 2017 Buick Encore. He also said the radio quit working and on plays static with no volume control or back up camera.

I've got a GMC Acadia who's radio/intell center is going nuts. Switches channels, ends calls, turns itself on at at time, sometimes you can change the channel on the radio, sometimes you cannot. Have you run across this issue in the great GM family?

Alexander Martin says:

I just need to replace my screen, as it’s smashed, is there special programs I need to do, or is just plug and play?

John Blum says:

Great flic. My '18 encore is having problems so thos will be a great reference

DSCZA Kastrup says:

MR O, your electronic videos are OK, keep making them unless YOU think they are stupid. No such thing as stupid questions, unless the asker IS stupid. Ergo, no such thing as a stupid video unless YOU make it and the viewer is hopelessly stupid. Ya rolls your die & ya takes yer chances…so does the stupid heads !

Uri Morales says:

Yet you don’t show wich fuseyou take off

Gary Kyle says:

Actually I like anything that has to do with cars and trucks.
I liked the video thanks.

Jordan Scheurer says:

Looks like a rebadge pos from over seas. I have an 04 buick lesabre. That's a real buick lol

Jordan Scheurer says:

Is it really made by buick though

Smart Home says:

Like it or not car repairs will be more software related as we head into a new era. I always wondered when I was young if I would ever learn a new language. By the time I was 49 I learned 7 languages and all were machine / computer languages. BTW if that part cost $700.00 you should get at least a $200.00 core charge back IMO.

forrest chambers says:

I like them because when my wife's '15 Impala takes a dump on me, it just gives me more ammunition to go down to Mechum and buy an older vehicle that I can fix for less than a thousand dollars to fix a radio.

2014 Buick Encore Hazard Lights Flicker on and off do you know why

Notbloody Likely says:

Great vid! So what do you think would happen if the HMI module had an inop fan?

Think it could overheat and cause the stereo / display / dash signal indicator lights / backup camera distance overlay — all to stop working until the two related fuses are pulled and reinserted???

Merlin says:

This is very helpful since mine quit yesterday afternoon. I hope this is not my problem but it sure makes me feel better if it is. Costly part and not sure if I can do the programming.

D Jaquith says:

I like this type of video over you tracking down, as you would say puss-filled green gook corroded wires only.

EVERETT Probst says:

Good morning from El Paso, Texas. I'm interested in these type videos and thoroughly enjoy watching them because i'm looking into replacing my stereo and I want every little detail possible. Thank you for the information in auto repair and maintenance you provide. 06/07/2023. Everett P.

Ricky LaFleur says:

don't ever stop making stuff like this. these are great examples for techs on diagnosing and choosing when to pull the trigger on expensive diagnoses. confirming all the rights things that say it really can't be anything else is a great tool.

Paul Higginbotham sr says:

Last winter my Chrysler product car had the radio go off and on a couple of times. Well seeing you replace this module and seeing it only refurbished and not new means if Chrysler has the same module I may be looking at this repair also. I was hoping a ground had come loose but it looks like the human machine interface is going bad on mine too.

bnelson313 Braveheart says:

I like all manner of your videos!

Philip Coetzee says:

Love these videos Eric

Bob Raymond says:

Great video. I've got a 2017 Chevy Volt, it has a blank display, and I believe the HMI module is what needs to be replaced on it. And because of your video, I can guess the HMI module is also located in back of the display.

Robb Robb says:

All your videos offer substance. I learn from everyone of them that I've watched so far. Some are over my head, but I glean bits and pices. Others really hit home. Thanks for making the effort, it is worth it
