You are correct, I just put 5 in as half a quart will do no harm. You just
don’t want to overfill too much. I have found with GM vehicles that when I
put in the recommended amount it always winds up showing low about a week
later. So I add a little bit extra to account for that.

Yes, oil is best changed with a warm engine so the oil will flow easier. It
isn’t a requirement though. Be careful when changing a hot engine as hot
oil can cause injury.

I have a 2000 Buick Century, my low coolant light stays on… but theres
plenty in the radiator and reserve….???

I thought it was 4.5qts of oil is it 5 because you changed the oil filter?
