yep that mounts fucked.
They didn’t make it any better in later years. The same mount wears out
quite often still.
Just did mine. I have noticed that one way to tell if any of the
surrounding mounts are bad is when you jack up the engine with a wood block
to take tension off the mount when replacing it. If the others are bad the
engine will moved first and then it will start lifting the body.
When they are good jacking the engine up the body will want to move with
the engine.
When the front mount goes bad on these engines the engine will not sag like
you would expect from a worn mount. But it will wreak havoc on your CV
axles and anything that moves that shouldn’t when you hit the gas.
You’ll also notice the engine leaning back like that and the front lifting
a bit like you have demo’ed in this video.
One of the bigger problems you notice is that when a mount on a car goes
bad usually it will cause a vibration at various speeds. Especially in
higher speeds.
Along with tires and suspension the mounts I will check if I get any kind
of odd vibrations as well. unless it RWD then it’s more than likely a
carrier bearing or ujoint.
Good video man.
@bah53 your right , I did not notice it when it was there , let me guess it
has to come off to get the cover off …oh well my bad , but you got an
extra view when I came back to watch it again to see lol 🙂
FWD Motor/tranny mounts really take a beating, having to hold the
multiplied torque to the wheels, not just engine torque. My cadillac has
HYDRAULIC motor mounts, the front one lasts me about 10K miles, or 500
green lights, whichever comes first, heh. Luckilly they’re guaranteed for
life from the parts store. If that was a V8 you could almost weld it solid,
but 90° V6s are a little too rough for that.
@towrecker Why do people think its missing? Its off to the side at the
begining along with the plastic cover. And its right there on the engine
from 2:06 to 6:06 then I take it off again lol.
oh wow thats FUCKED
@Jcal022 You would probably have to see if an auto parts store would have
it, if not you might have to go to a junkyard. Another option is to make
your own with some adapters and some different vacuum lines
Hi;I have a 1992 buick lesabre the Transmission when in drive starts off in
3 rd gear i have to put it in 2nd to take off 1st is also 3rd.SOMETIMES IT
WORKS CORRECTLY GOING FROM 1TO 3RD AND OVERDRIVE.DID YOU EVER COME ACROSS
THIS PROBLEM.THANK YOU
u have work ahead lols
oh come on we are all rednecks I know , but a missing oil cap ? a true
redneck mechanic would at the least have an old pair of their under shorts
stuffed in there !!!
Not in the LEAST bit. The bands inside your transmission or torque
converter lokup are going bad. time for a rebuild!
I have a vacuum leAk at the throttle body from the two lines that meet
there. One line is coming from the fuel pressure reg and other not sure but
both combine and meet at the throttle any idea how to fix?
Inject some 3m window sealer in there. It will be like solid motor mounts.
ive owned a dozen of these 3800 cars and ive always broke that same
mount!!!! so i built a solid mount. was too easy and the cars feel much
better after doing that
stuff some shop rags in that mount that will do for a couple miles then i
sell her..i can see a salesman saying that why cause i am with my slicked
backed greased hair ha ha ha…
@towrecker Yeah it has to come off to get the cover off. No big deal tho, I
just thought it was funny that two people commented on it.
That engine looked like it was tryin to jump up out of there…… just so
it doesnt fall out on the road lol!
Hey, can bad transmission mounts cause the transmission to slip? Does
anybody know this?
@BigBoy4005 I always use steel square tubing and make solid mounts for
these cars. It makes a WORLD of difference in how they drive. buick puts
those cheap rubber junkers on there to soften up shifts for grandma and
grandpa. Takes tubing, a saw, and a good drill bit. and bolts.
Might add n oil cap to your list as well!
Mine is suffering from the SAME thing right now. I am looking into a set of
poly engine mounts…screw the extra vibrations in the car, I just want it
solid and able to take MASSIVE torque.
Im no redneck lol
I’m about to buy a old 98 park ave with 170K, any heads up?? Things I
should be concerned about or look for before buying?
if your transmission is slipping its all internal does not effect whats
going on the outside but if you wanna try replacing the mounts on the
transmission. And maybe check your transmission fluid level or just giving
the transmission fluid flush and new filter and gasket do all that first it
the cheapest way to trouble shoot before taking the transmission out and
getting a used or new one.
@chevyreaper I’ve seen people do that before
That’s not as bad as my 92 Taurus was.
Redneck ingenuity at it’s best, awesome job. Can’t wait to see the next
installment.
Very common on these cars are the strut mount/bearings go bad causing a
clunk noise in the upper part of the strut tower. I’ve replaced many of
these and always takes car of the clunk noise.
@nikyjim The one that was on that vice grip fell apart. The other stand is
made from a metal fence post and doesn’t really stab into concrete to well
lol.
haha my truck broke a mount before i just used a chain binder and rachet
straps to hold her down
what happened to you getto camera mount? you could use that or u cud just
tape you camera to the car
